Acne scars are a visible reminder of the painful breakouts endured by so many women. We’d like to share our ten ways to get rid of acne scars without using harmful chemicals. These ten ingredients are safe and effective — and won’t break the bank.
Cucumbers are incredibly soothing. Cucumbers have the ability to tone, calm, and reduce puffiness. They also lighten scars. If you mash up a cucumber and regularly apply it to your acne scars, you should see an improvement within just a few days. This fruit can ease inflammation and lighten acne scars with consistent use.
1. Tomato paste
You may have heard about amazing skin care benefits of tomato paste before. For under $1 at the grocery store, tomato paste is chock full of an ingredient called lycopene. This has so many skin care benefits, one of which is fading acne scars. Simply apply tomato paste right to the scars, rinse off within 20 minutes, and you should see results fairly quickly.
2. Fresh lemon juice
Freshly squeezed lemon juice is a potent natural lightening agent. Lemon juice can brighten the skin, fade freckles, and lighten age spots. It can do the same with acne scars. Simply put a cotton swab into the lemon juice and dab onto your scars each night before bed. Be sure to use sunscreen in the morning, though, as lemon juice makes your skin more susceptible to burning.
Honey is a miracle worker for the skin. Natural products fanatics prefer Buckwheat honey for skin care. This darker variety of honey contains more antioxidants. Honey is nourishing, yet anti-bacterial, making it wonderful for scar care. By making a simple honey mask for the skin, you will often find a reduction in the appearance of scars very quickly.
4. Lavender Essential Oil
Lavender oil is used in aromatherapy and skin care because of its many benefits. Scar reduction is just one of lavender’s many powers. While it won’t work for everyone, it does work on many cases of acne scarring–and it does so rapidly. Apply a small amount with a cotton swab directly to the scar. It may tingle slightly, so be aware of this.
Applying ripe strawberries directly to acne scars may prove to be effective for your acne scars. Strawberries contain a natural form of salicylic acid to draw impurities and debris from the skin. They also can brighten the skin, which makes scars less visible.
6. Apple Cider Vinegar
Raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar may help treat your acne scars. Combine equal parts vinegar with water and apply directly to the bothersome spots. Apple cider vinegar has been shown to heal inflammation and scarring, making this is worthwhile choice!
7. Aloe vera gel
Aloe vera gel works on acne scars and it works promptlly. You must use 100% aloe vera, though. It will not work if combined with the fillers found in many aloe gels. Pure aloe applied topically helps ease soreness and redness caused by acne and over time, it will help reduce the scars left behind.
Are you familiar with fenugreek? You should be able to find this at the health foods store in leaf form. You can make a mask out of these leaves and apply directly to the scars. This has been used in Ayurveda for centuries as a scar treatment.
9. Tea tree oil
Tea tree essential oil is often used as a natural skin care treatment for acne. Not only can it help combat acne, but it can reduce the appearance of acne scars. This essential oil fights bacteria and helps to disinfect the skin.
10. Olive oil
Not just for cooking, olive oil has its place in skin care. Pure vegetable oils are very therapeutic. Apply a small amount of high quality olive oil to clean fingertips and then spend a few minutes massaging into the scars. Be sure to use gentle motions.
