In seven short days, PAWS Chicago, the largest No-Kill humane organization, will be hosting their 16th Annual Angels with Tails event. They will be working in conjunction with 17 other local shelter and rescue organizations.
Although the event will focus on the more than 150 typical domesticated animals, both dogs, puppies, cats and kittens, this article wants to draw attention to the adult cats that are in the care of PAWS. While many individuals will chose to adopt an older dog, it seems as though older cats are ignored to a greater extent.
This year marks the 16th year of this wonderful adoption event, “Angels with Tails.” The event is scheduled from Noon until 4:00 p.m. at 43 storefront and windows in downtown Chicago. To be specific, the stores participating start at the corner of Michigan Avenue and Oak Street (along Michigan Avenue and south to Ontario and Oak Street west just past Rush Street).
PAWS Chicago launched the very first Angels with Tails in 1997. Their goal was to bring together local shelter and rescue groups for the very first time in order to showcase Chicago’s homeless pets that were available for adoption. They thought if the general public could witness the animals being displayed on city sidewalks and in participating storefronts along Michigan Avenue and Oak Street that the awareness might catch on.
From that very first event launch, many of Chicago’s homeless animals’ lives were saved. The public became informed for the first time that an astounding 42,500 cats, kittens, dogs and puppies were being needlessly killed just that year alone.
Since then the awareness has grown. With the media attention that this event has received, currently coupled with social media advances, more and more individuals within the community have become involved. The previous tragedy of killing off all of those domesticated pets is lessening; the current number is still way too high, but has been reduced by more than fifty-percent!
If PAWS Chicago has anything to say about it, they would like to ensure that Chicago would soon be a No Kill city. Animals would no longer be euthanized simply because they were homeless. Just this one event aids those working diligently to make the dream a reality.
So many of the animals found in shelters and rescues are adult cats that are overlooked simply because of their age. These cats would love nothing more than to locate a home that they could finally call their very own and a family which they could love.
If you are looking for a fabulous pet, please consider one of the many adult cats available for adoption. In order to view all of the choices available, logon to http://angelswithtails.pawsevents.org/ and then plan to attend Angels with Tails.
