With Independence Day falling in the middle of a work week this year, many Americans are wondering when 4th of July 2013 is observed. Many are asking, “Are banks open on 4th of July, Thursday, July 4?” Patch.com reported on July 3, 2013, that most banks and all post offices are closed, not open in the Providence, Rhode Island area on the Fourth of July.
A federal holiday, Fourth of July, also known as July Fourth, or simply 4th of July, is always observed on July 4. The only exception is when the holiday falls on a Sunday, which means the business holiday will then be observe Monday. This year, Fourth of July is observed on its intended day, Thursday, July 4, 2012.
Because 4th of July is also a post office holiday, most, if not all banks in the Providence, Rhode Island area are closed as well. You’ll need to finish your banking by the close of business Wednesday, July 3, 2012. Banks that are closed on Independence Day will reopen for normal business Friday, July 5, 2012.

TD Bank stores will be open on Independence Day, July 4, 2012. Unlike most banks that are closed, TD Bank stores will be open for all banking needs until 1 p.m. Some may have limited hours. NOTE: All transactions made on Fourth of July will be processed the next business day.

Here in the Providence, Rhode Island area, the following banks observe the 4th of July holiday, and their lobby and drive-up windows are closed for business. Local ATM machines are almost always open unless they’re inside a bank lobby. Check first to be sure as availability and/or hours may vary with locations.
