This past week a certain writer went with her sister (hi, sissy!) to see the new Star Trek film. After being blown away by the intensity of Benedict Cumberbatch’s cheekbones and collecting our ovaries again after hearing his voice, we realized there was an interesting little connection between actors Noel Clarke and Benedict Cumberbatch – a very interesting connection. Noel, who played Mickey in Doctor Who and Cumberbatch, who of course plays Sherlock Holmes, were in a scene together at the beginning. It threw us way off since we’re massive fans of both shows and made us smile a little. In a way, we got a crossover. Sure it’s a stretch because we seriously doubt that the casting director for Star Trek saw Noel Clarke’s name and thought, “Oh man! This is a great way to fulfill my wish of having a crossover!” It probably didn’t even register to them. But it’s there nonetheless and it gave us this idea.
Now we understand that these shows have about a unicorn’s chance in hell of actually coming together but dangnabit, we want it to happen anyway!
What do you think? Which crossovers would you like to see?
#5. Supernatural/True Blood
Yes, one is a CW show and the other…not so much (we suppose Vampire Diaries would be more plausible but that would be so boring considering it’s the CW) but it could so totally work! Supernatural is one of the best shows a channel like CW has/will ever do; True Blood is not exactly the best show ever but it has its good points, mostly Eric and Pam. Plus it doesn’t take place with teenagers in the role and that is always a positive.
How: Okay, so say Sam and Dean get this weird call from a place called Bon Temps, LA about some seriously weird stuff going down in that town. Naturally the call would come from Arlene (True Blood). Or Sam and Dean get stuck in Shreveport after kicking some butt a few towns over and since they attract trouble, all hell would break loose. Can you imagine those two going up against Russell or Bill/Billith? Oh, the humanity! Not to mention how nuts Jason would go at the idea of Sam and Dean.
Basically, we’re just trying to think of a scenario that puts both Tara and Sookie out of the picture. Come on, you’re thinking it too. Unless you don’t watch one or either of these shows; in which case you probably stopped reading already. So go on and press the “next” button. For those who do watch both, you know what we’re talking about.
#4. Psych/The Mentalist
Anyone who has ever watched either of these shows knows that they are two sides of the same coin – both a knockoff (like most shows like this) of Sherlock Holmes stuff. Super observant, has a sidekick, photographic memory, etc. The difference between them is that Psych is more of a parody of those serious shows – shows like The Mentalist. In fact, they’ve both taken some jabs at each other in their respective episodes. It’s kind of hilarious.
How: Since Psych has made references to The Mentalist as actually being a show, something could happen on the set of Mentalist and Shawn and Gus are sent to check it out. Since we’ve seen Shawn on the set of other shows, it wouldn’t be a stretch. What would be is if CBS allowed it. Still, we can ask Santa for it come Christmas.
#3. Orphan Black/ The Walking Dead
For those who have never heard of Orphan Black, it’s a show about clones and it’s pretty freaking cool. The same actress, Tatiana Mansley, plays them all and her talent is unbelievable. The main thing driving the show is the mystery behind why someone cloned this particular woman. The Walking Dead is pretty much the title: zombies.
How: This one could connect through the mysteries of why the scientists were cloning and how the virus started on Walking Dead. Let’s say that the virus came about in the same lab as the clones; or at the very least the same scientists were involved. We’ll let the fanfiction writers take it from there.
#2. Once Upon a Time/ Game of Thrones
Once Upon a Time is beautifully balanced between Storybrooke and Fairytale Land as it gives us flashbacks and other assorted characters from books. With the addition of Dr. Whale/Frankenstein in the second season, the show is no longer just about fairytale creatures and that opens it up for any sort of fantasy characters; Game of Thrones is all about fantasy.
How: Easy. Magic beans of course. *here be spoilers in case you’re touchy* In the second season finale of OUAT, Hook, Emma, Gold (Rumplestilskin), Charming and Snow White, and Regina (the Evil Queen) throw a magic bean in the water and get sucked into a portal that opened into Neverland. But what if they landed in Westeros instead? Dragons are fantasy too ya know! They could team up with any of the 6 million+ characters in the show. Could Rumple’s powers work there since there’s magic in Westeros? And we’d love to see an evil queen named Cersei go up against an actual Evil Queen. Oh, the possibilities! Stranger things have happened in both shows: Rumple being both the Beast from “Beauty and the Beast” and the Crocodile from “Peter Pan”; Dany friendzoning Jorah on GoT.
#1. The Big Bang Theory/Sherlock
Sherlock is one of the most desired crossovers for so many shows. One of the biggest ones is Big Bang Theory for two reasons: 1) Sheldon vs Sherlock would be a sight to behold; and 2) tv screens would explode at the speed in which these two characters would talk. This isn’t just any kind of Sherlock like Elementary or Robert Downey Jr.; this is Benedict Cumberbatch’s version. There’s a reason for that beyond preference. Benedict can pull of deductions like no other actor (see Hounds of Baskerville for reference) and could easily keep up with Jim Parson’s tangents.
Plus, they could have unlimited amounts of references to how much Sherlock looks like Khan in the new Star Trek.
How: Sheldon gets invited to speak at a conference in London and ends up in a murder mystery where in attendance is one Sherlock Holmes. Or more likely, Sheldon experiences some pain at the supermarket where he is taken care of a doctor named John Watson who was having serious trouble with the checkout machine. Again, we’re pretty sure the fanfiction writers can take it from here.
