This past weekend Fast 6 opened in theatres and if it was a race for the number one spot, they revved up their engines on Friday and never looked back the rest of the weekend. This movie proved that the franchise is not getting old or boring and that Harry Potter isn’t the only movie that can still keep their fans wanting more six movies into the series. If you haven’t seen this movie, and you may be the only New Yorker who hasn’t, here are 6 reasons that this movie is a summer must see
The whole cast is made up of some beautiful people. Honestly, everyone in that movie is cute. Also there is someone for everyone. If you like muscled guys there is Vin Deisel(Dom) and the Rock(Det. Hobbs). If you like funny guys then Tyrese (Roman)and Sung Kang (Han) are your men. If you want someone smart, then Ludacris (Tej) is the man with a plan. And for those who just like blue eyed blondes, Paul Walker (Brian) is “the prettiest blonde” in the movie. For the men there is also Michelle Rodriquez who plays Letty along with a few other females that kick butt and look good while doing it.
The action scenes in this movie are crazy ridiculous. There are cars flipping, tanks mowing down cars, people jumping in the air, and planes crashing. At times there is too much going on in this movie, which makes it even more amazing, because after you leave you want to go see it again because something was obviously missed when you dropped your popcorn or had to blink. Like, how can you make a whole theatre all exhale at the same time? Have Dom and Letty in the air jumping for their lives, that’s how. There is an abundance of action in this movie and if the pretty faces don’t entice you, the action sequences will make your mouth water.
Honestly, I didn’t know I missed her so much, but when she popped up at the end of Fast Five, I was happy to see her back in the fold. Usually Rodriquez brings a toughness to all of her roles that is so inherently her, but in this movie she has a vulnerability that comes across. That doesn’t mean that she still doesn’t kick ass and take names, but she is also more reserved in this movie. It comes out pretty early on what happened to her in Fast and Furious (the fourth one not the first one) and how she ended up working for the bad guy. She is a really good in this movie and brings back the message of the original movie, which is staying loyal to the family, even when they seem to have been disloyal to you.
Dom and Letty’s Love Story
There are several love stories in the series but the one that is amazing is the one between Dom and Letty. Dom refuses to let her go even when it seems all hope is loss. They always seemed so in love in the other movies and it was sad when he left her in the fourth movie, but in this one you really get the feeling that these two people are made for each other. It is also not the usual love story because usually the woman is the damsel in distress, but in a fight Letty definitely holds her own.
Relateability I know that normal people don’t usually go up against international criminals or fight tanks or bring down planes with their cars, but the characters are everyday/regular people like everyone else. Everyone has friends like one of these characters. There is the serious one who is always on alert like Dom, there is the one who is always eating and trying to find food like Rom, then there is the smart guy who wants to be cool so he chills with the cool kids like Tej and there is the one who is the pretty one, like Brian. Looking at these characters they could be your friends, they could be someone in your family. So watching them on the screen you either put yourself in one of their shoes or want to hang out with them.
The running theme throughout this movie is Family. Most of the people who are helping Dom and Brian find Letty have never even met her, but because they have formed such a strong bond over time, they help and nearly get themselves killed because they know that if the situation was reversed, Dom and Brian would be right there to help them. It also helps that the actors in the movie seem to really have bonded over the years and makes the audience believe that they really are an extended family. Shaw(Luke Evans), who the team goes up against in this movie, says that Dom’s sense of family will be his downfall, but what really saves the team in the end, is their loyalty to the family.
