HENRY COUNTY GEORGIA – Henry County Schools, eighth grade Talented and Gifted (TAG) Students took the first administration of the common core Coordinate Algebra End of Course Test (EOCT) with Henry’s ninth graders.
County wide, the middle school TAG student’s average score is eleven points higher than the average ninth grader for 2013, at 76 to 65.
When comparing the TAG student’s average grade to the high school/s by cluster you find:
Dutchtown Middle School scored 8 points above Dutchtown High – 77 to 69, with 19.2% failing to meet standards.
Eagle’s Landing Cluster
Eagle’s Landing Middle tied for the second highest score, 16 points beyond Eagle’s Landing High – 80 to 64, with 5.9% failing to meet standards.
Henry County Cluster
Henry County Middle tops out the cluster 12 points above Henry County High – 74 to 62, with 47.1% failing to meet standards. And 14 points higher than Patrick Henry High – 74 to 58.
Locust Grove Cluster
Locust Grove Middle led Locust Grove High by 14 points – 78 to 64, with 6.5% failing to meet standards.
Luella Middle outscored Luella High’s Graduating Class of 2016 by 12 points – 76 to 64, with 13.5% failing to meet standards.
Hampton Middle led the high school by 8 points – 72 to 64, with 37.5% failing to meet standards.
Ola Middle surpassed Ola High by 11 points – 78 to 67, with 4.8% failing to meet standards.
Austin Road Middle tied with Eagle’s Landing Middle with the second highest, average student score, and bypassed Stockbridge High by 16 points – 80 to 64, with 6.3% failing to meet standards.
Stockbridge Middle followed, outscoring the high school by 15 points – 79 to 64, with all students meeting or exceeding standards.
Union Grove Cluster
Union Grove Middle set the bar for middle schools, scoring 13 points higher than Union Grove High – 84 to 71, with 3.1% failing to meet standards.
Woodland Middle led Woodland High by 7 points – 75 to 68, with 28.6% failing to meet standards.
The top four middle schools exceeding the standards were:
- Union Grove Middle at 21.9%,
- Eagle’s Landing Middle 14.7%,
- Austin Road Middle 12.5%, and
- Stockbridge Middle at 11.8%.
With 8th grade TAG students taking Coordinate Algebra and Physical Science high school courses, results may change dramatically for the spring 2014 and future administrations of the EOCT.
For more than 7-years Georgia’s Department of Education has released the average student scores for standardized tests like the EOCT; a value, making an accurate evaluation of the quality of student learning.
And not just a measurement of the number of students passing or failing, from year to year.
