Test your adventure quotient. Would you BYO your own own epicurean feast, table, chairs, dishes, silverware, crystal, china and white tablecloths to a pop-up picnic even if it’s supposed to be tres chic and world-famous. If so you’ll have an opportunity on August 21 when the global gourmet event Dîner en Blanc, hits Los Angeles at some heretofore unspecified spot, but allegedly stylish, in town.
A idea is imported from Paris and is expected to host 1,000 foodies and cultural enthusiasts all dressed in white who will descend on a hidden location to be revealed at the very last minute.
Are you intrigued? Groups of 100 to 300 people will gather at specific rallying points all across the city, either on foot or by car, subway or bike. They will be elegantly attired in white and tote their own extravagant picnic.
According to LA Event co-host Sunny Kalara feels, “In this age of over stimulation, it is nice to have an event that is a throwback to the old times of pure white ambiance, elegant dressing and old fashioned picnic. I’ll travel to the end of the world for a good picnic. I believe if Great Gatsby was hosting parties today, he would host Dîner en Blanc.” Kalara is an attorney, scientist, author and a designer. He is the founder of the Kalara Law Firm and serves as a general counsel to The Indus Entrepreneur and Life Bliss Foundation.
The global spectacle, launched by Francois Pasquier, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year! It attracts ore than 10,000 people each year. Dîner en Blanc International, which is based in Montreal, is responsible for developing this secret posh picnic in over 40 cities by the end of 2013.
