We grew up sleeping on down and feather pillows. And frankly, we’ve never tested a synthetic that even came close to the same loft and feel you get with down—until now.
The new high end gel pillow from DownLinens.com features an extremely fine synthetic fiber, giving it a soft, comfortable feel much like down, The gel pillows are breathable, washable and sold as two pair for the starting price of only $44.99 or $59.99, depending on whether you want the jumbo or king size version and how much “fill” or firmness is desired. We highly recommend this vendor and suggest you think about getting some for your son’s or daughter’s college dorm room.
“The price for this type of pillow is rather remarkable—and you get two.”
DownLinens.com, a direct-to-consumer manufacturer, offers department store quality bedding items at far less cost. DL’s parent company Allied Feather & Down has been selling down and feathers and superior fiber products to the outdoor industry for more than 25 years.
Made in the USA, DownLinens’ new gel pillow pairs come in a soft 300 thread count cover with a square design and fit in a queen or king size pillow case. You can specify that the gel pillows be designed for side, back or stomach sleepers.
“As a side sleeper, it’s easy to hug this pillow and keep your chest from collapsing or to prevent your shoulder from taking on too much pressure from your torso.”
All DownLinens pillows are hypoallergenic. And the online site also offers comforters, featherbeds, duvets and other fine bed linens.
We interviewed Nate Hascalovici, CPA with Allied Feather and Down Corp., so he could tell us more about DownLinens.com
Q.: What was the impetus for creating these products?
N.: Way back when this project started, our goal was simple: find the best possible alternative to down for customers who either had allergies to down and feathers, or who were looking for a filling that would have much the same feel at a lower price. As you may know, the supply of down available worldwide has been falling, so down prices have been rising. But instead of seeing this as a negative, we saw it as a chance to diversify our offerings and develop a down-alternative product that would be both affordable and suitable for the disparate needs of our customers.
As we delved into our fiber research, we discovered a dilemma: most down alternative products that use polyester fibers simply can’t replace that perfect balance of comfort and support that you get from down-filled products. So, we began experimenting. Ultimately, we landed on our new Premium Gel Fiber, a filling that is not only what we consider the best possible alternative to down, but a solution that offers consumers comforting qualities that rival down!
Q.: Can you speak to the composite materials and their properties and features?
N.: Down Linen’s Plush Perfect Gel Fiber pillows are made of a specially treated polyester that, when squeezed, feels soft and silky – much the same feeling as down. We package them two to a set and they come with a 300 thread count, 100% cotton cover.
Down Linen’s Gel Fiber pillows have a couple of other advantages for the consumer. They are machine-washable, hypo-allergenic and breathable. And, since we know sleepers are like snowflakes, we created three fill weights to satisfy all the categories of sleepers: stomach, side and back.
Q.: What is on the horizon for DownLinens?
N.: At DownLinens, we focus on continually improving the end-user experience. Along with that, we are always developing and introducing unique and exciting new products.
On the website front, for instance, we are creating easy-to-use, informative videos that will advise the customers about product care and buying guides. On the product side, we are looking at new designs and new types of pillows. Stay tuned for new announcements!
