Aaron Hernandez was cut from the New England Patriots following his arrest at his North Attleboro home Wednesday morning. The Patriots made the announcement about an hour after Hernandez’s arrest. Massachusetts State Police along with North Attleboro police officers entered Aaron Hernandez’s home at around 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, according to myFOXboston.com on Wednesday, June 26. Approximately two minutes later, the officers escorted the Pat’s tight end out of the home in handcuffs and placed him in the back of a police cruiser.
Just one hour later, the New England Patriots issued a statement on the matter, saying, “A young man was murdered last week and we extend our sympathies to the family and friends who mourn his loss.
“Words cannot express the disappointment we feel knowing that one of our players was arrested as a result of this investigation. We realize that law enforcement investigations into this matter are ongoing.
“We support their efforts and respect the process. At this time, we believe this transaction is simply the right thing to do”, the statement ended.
Hernandez was wearing a pair of red shorts and had his arms inside of a white T-shirt as he was escorted out of his home. Click here or at the top of the article to watch video of the events from this morning.
The NFL star was taken to the North Attleboro police department for booking. According to ABC News, the charges against Hernandez will not be made public until his arraignment today, Bristol County District Attorney C. Samuel Sutter said in a statement.
Aaron Hernandez has not been ruled out as a suspect in the killing of his friend, semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd, 27, who was found shot dead June 17.
He has been at the center of the investigation since Lloyd’s body was found shot execution style in an industrial park about a mile from the Patriots star’s $1.7 million home.
Possible charges include obstruction of justice due to the security system at Hernandez’s home, which included video surveillance, being intentionally destroyed. His cell phone was also turned over to police “in pieces”.
Investigators also question why Hernandez hired a team of professional cleaners to scrub the mansion after the murder.
Evidence suggests that Hernandez and Lloyd had been together at several nightclubs during over the weekend, including the night before Lloyd’s body was discovered.
FOX 25 legal experts say that if Aaron Hernandez is charged with obstruction of justice, he will most likely post bail and be released later Wednesday.
