Actor Robert Downey’s reference to Biblical pophecy teacher Chuck Missler during a recent appearance on a television show has ignited a discussion regarding the end of the world, according to an article today in the Christian Post, dated Saturday, May 25. Downey said he “loved Chuck Missler” during his interview with Jon Stewart on the Daily Show.
Some of Bible prophecy teacher Chuck Missler’s beliefs have received interest recently in view of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
One of the prophecies is located in Isaiah, Chapter 17. This passages refers to Damascus becoming a “heap of ruins.” While Damascus is the capital of Syria and one of the oldest cities on the face of the earth, the recent civil war in the country certainly increases the possiblility of its destruction. With the use of chemical weapons reported in the war between Al-Qaeda infested rebels and the hard line leader of the government, the possiblity of the destruction of Damascus certainly looms as a possible result.
A second prophecy involves an alliance of nations attacking Israel in Ezekiel 38-39. Hal Lindsey in his bestselling book “The Late Great Planet Earth” referred to the passage as predicting the invastion of Israel by Iran, Russia and other countries near the end times. Lindsey interpreted the mention of the words Gog and Magog as referring to Russia which would unite with Iran and other countries to attack Israel.
Prophecy News Watch director Kade Hawkins said that a survey two years ago by Pew Research found that 58 percent of Americans believe Jesus will return by 2050.
With the threats by Israel to blow up possible Iranian nuclear facilities as a self-defensive action, the possiblity that Iran would then attack Israel seem more likely. And Russia which has often allied itself with Iran, could easily co-operate with the country referred to as Persia in Biblical prophecy.
Missler has a ministry which deals with prophecy based on a Biblical perspective. His teachings are based on a belief in the inerrancy of the Scriptures.
He has also started an organization called Koinonia House which is located in Idaho.
Missler formerly was chief executive officer of Western Digital. He also was the technology company’s largest stockholder.
In 1983 Missler became chairman and chief executive officer of Helionetics Inc., another technology company.
He taught at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa for several years.
Downey recently starred in the hugely successful movie Iron Man 3 which is not a religiously-based movie. Until now, Downey has not discussed his religious beliefs publicly.
