Some of my favorite restaurants are located in Soho – where lofty industrial spaces are transformed into havens for foodies, tourists, locals and even business people like me.
As a real estate agent, I make contacts as I walk – I also market hotels – so after completing an open house, I happened over to the very hip Galli Restaurant, located at 45 Mercer Street for lunch.
Entering Galli – Immediately catching my eye is outdoor eating space – Bistro style outside the restaurant – a major “like” for me. A long eating area of booths and bar style setup leads you to a comfy dining room in the rear of the restaurant. The dining room boasts exposed brick and skylights for fantastic light. Very intimate for small talk, informal discussion and dealmaking. The dress code is from relaxed to corporate.
What a relaxed, chatty atmosphere – The light from the skylights was not overpowering – quite welcoming actually – business people next to me were raving about the food and menu. It had the typical Soho industrial look (not a bad thing), some areas are low lit for romance. I heard various tunes in the air of many music genres, complimenting the mood of the eatery.
The minute I walked in I was whisked over to my seat – a rustic wooden chair with marble topped table. There is also comfortable bench seating along one wall. The wait staff was completely on top of their game, leaving none of their patrons unnoticed.
I started off the lunch with a glass of Chardonnay wine – since I ordered their famous Chicken Francaise, with an accompaniment of fresh garden salad.
The Chardonnay acted as a primer for what was to come. When eating chicken, one must not need to use a knife, hence my “fork test”. My chicken had hinted notes of lemon in the sauce, a perfect blend of flavors, and was cooked marvelously – my garden salad was packed full of carrots, broccoli, lemon, lime, cucumber and was just exquisite. The bread with olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette dipping sauce made me want more – I could not get enough of this new found symphony of flavors !!
My dessert choice was tiramisu – which I found to me dreamy, creamy, fresh, delightful and with hints of espresso bean sprinkled on top – the robust flavor was a very happy pallet pleaser ! They also have other dessert choices such as ice cream sandwiches, panna cotta, cheesecake, nutella sliders, marios berries, and ice cream and various coffees.
Folks – my meal at Galli was exquisite, perfectly portioned, and did not put me to sleep – I had just enough energy to complete my very crazy and hectic day – From a real estate perspective, Galli has “Location Location Location” and a menu that really took me back to my friend’s house while in school !! Bon Appetit !!
