Alias Movement, a Temecula Valley Repertory Dance Company is having quite a year: chock filled with performances, the opening of a dance studio, and a new event called Groove the Beat.
The company, two years in the making, is co-directed by dance artists: Alexis A Weisbrod and Natalia Morales. The two women have been busy creating opportunities for dancers in the area, teaching classes, working on choreography, and bringing the company to events held in Murietta, Menifee, Hemet, Romoland, Temecula, and San Diego.
In April Groove the Beat premiered. The idea for this performance platform is to invite local dance companies and crews to share work and simultaneously create an evening of dancing for audience members as well. Typically a dance audience will sit and observe dance, but in this instance the audience gets to dance also! A D.J. spinning current tunes and an open dance floor are made accessible for audience members to experience a dancing environment and the artistry of local dance groups in the same evening.
Last month Alias Movement Center opened. A first year goal fosters awareness for Adults in the community. The dance studio offers 18 classes a week, and Morales and Weisbrod are creating an environment that will offer new styles of dance to individuals as well as styles they are accustomed to.
The dancers from Alias Movement have had the opportunity to perform several times in 2013. They traveled to San Diego to perform in two events including Ignite at the Vine Theater. They also shared work at danceXchange and other performances in the area.
Company directors Morales and Weisbrod originally wanted to create dancing opportunities for pre-professional and professional dancers recently graduated from high school and college. The vision has grown and the company’s ability to travel and perform has sparked momentum.
