First Galveston, now Mobile: it seems that there is a great need for shelter reform and fast.
Animal advocates are upset over allegations against the Mobile County Animal Shelter (MCAS). They claim the animals are being kept in filthy cages, in and surrounded by urine and feces, without water or food, and just living in inhumane conditions that are bad enough to make even the healthiest animal sick.
In an exclusive interview with someone who I can only describe as an “insider” who does not want to be mentioned by name at this time that took place on July 25, 2013, she alleges, “MCAS is not being truthful with the public and to charities about which animals have already been adopted or rescued, about the un-accounted for, and about the owner surrenders that they take in but kill without ever entering them into the system. If you look on their website and compare it to the dogs actually inside the shelter, you will see that dogs that the shelter’s website says have been adopted, rescued, or even dead is actually still in there.” She goes on to state, “There are volunteers who run a Facebook page to try to network all of the animals in this shelter and they will often come across this scenario and find dogs in there that they were never even told about. Then they have to try to hurry to try to get them saved.”
It seems none of the volunteers or workers want to reveal their identities out of fear of retaliation in the form of them not being allowed to check on and help with the animals that need rescue so desperately. Another anonymous volunteer claimed that “She has found many animals still alive and suffering in that back room that the MCAS staff has already reported as adopted, rescued, or pts.”
Bottom line is that if animals are there that are never even being listed as available or made known to be rescue only, then how does any adopter or rescue even know that they are there? If these allegations are true and this is happening then that means an automatic death sentence for these animals after of course, they first suffer the inhumane and filthy conditions inside the shelter.
If you want to help by adopting or rescuing any animals from MCAS, you can use their website or go down to the shelter. There is a petition here to try to get something done to stop this cruelty, please help by signing here to demand an investigation now.
