Booeymonger 3265 Prospect Street, NW 202.333.4810–Instead chowing on a greasy burger or fried chicken sandwich, order The Georgetowner. The sandwich contains turkey breast, avocado, alfalfa sprouts and mayonnaise on French bread. A pickle is on the side so there is no need to have a side dish. You can opt to hold the mayo. Alfalfa sprouts help support blood clotting; reduce bone deficiency; and build up the immune system.
Luke’s Lobster 1211 Potomac Street, NW 202.333.4863–You don’t need to go to Maine for seafood. Luke’s Lobster is close to the seacoast patrons will get. The blue and white colonial townhouse is picturesque and inviting. And fresh is really the taste. The seafood is actually seafood not drowned in mayo and overdressed in seasonings. Order the Taste of Maine, which is a trio of shrimp, crab and lobster rolls; chips; pickle; and soda at $20. For an extra $2 you can get two lobster claws with cocktail sauce. The chips and soda are organic and from fair-trade companies. There is definitely no guilt there.
Moby Dick House of Kabob 1070 31st Street, NW 202.333.4400–Mother always told you to eat your veggies. A great choice is Moby’s Veggie, a hot plate with sauteed fresh mushrooms, onion, tomato, spinach and alfalfa sprouts served on a bed of Basmati rice. All the ingredients have great health benefits and they serve enough food to last for two to three days.
Pizzeria Paradiso 3282 M Street, NW 202.337.1245–Better ingredients do make a good pizza and Pizzeria Paradiso uses the freshest ingredients to make their wood-fired pizzas. According to UVA registered dietician Carole Havrila, the better choice is bosco pizza. This vegetarian pizza contains mushrooms, spinach, red onions, and tomatoes. The pizza is light and delicious. You get not only good quality ingredients, but great quality taste.
Sweetgreen 2200 Wisconsin Avenue, NW 202.333.4307 & 3333 M Street, NW 202.337.9338–Not all salad served at restaurants are created equal. The salad may not be to your liking; contain ingredients that you can’t consume; and arouse suspicion as to where it’s from. Sweetgreen promotes sustainability sourcing local and organic ingredients from farmers in the Mid-Atlantic region. You can order a salad from their menu, but it’s better to create your own. The ingredients are colorful, crisp and delicious.
Luke’s Lobster provides fresh seafood from Maine’s coastal waters. To sample the seafood, order the Maine Trio, a combination of lobster, shrimp, and crab sandwiches.
