One of the longest running cultural memes is the claim that the United States is a “nation of immigrants.” This meme is repeatedly spewed by both liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans, in order to justify the establishment of a Brotherhood of Man on the North American continent. It’s a meme that Peter Brimelow debunked 18 years ago in his 1995 book, Alien Nation, but because the meme registers with most white Americans on a pre-rational level, it is exceedingly difficult to discredit.
All that said, let’s pretend that the United States is indeed a nation of immigrants. Let’s assume that, even though this land was 85 percent white for the first 200 years of its existence, it was never really a white nation like, say, the indigenous nations of Europe. Let’s assume that America was a proposition nation from its inception, and that any human of any race or ethnicity can become an American as long as he swears loyalty to “liberty” and to the “proposition that all men are created equal.” Let’s assume this country is a Civic Nationalist society.
If all this is true, than how do we account for what the Multicultural Centre (Mångkulturellt centrum) in Botkyrka near Stockholm, Sweden declared last week as non-white Muslim immigrants in Sweden broke out into riots:
We want a new Swedish story better equipped to deal with and include today’s demographic diversity and to create a new Swedishness for the future. That new story’s main task is to separate whiteness from Swedishness in order to be a socially sustainable future Swedishness.
The key phrase here is “separating whiteness from Swedishness.” Sweden is not a propositional nation. It is not based on a civic nationalist creed. For over 1000 years it has been united by a common ethnicity, culture, and history. Sweden still is and always has been a white nation. Swedes are an ethnic group with a common ancestry and a common blood. You cannot be an ethnic Swede unless you were born an ethnic Swede.
And yet, despite all those self-evident facts, the Multicultural Centre wants to redefine Swedishness in the exact same civic nationalist terms that Americanism is defined. There is literally nothing about Swedish history that morally justifies redefining Sweden as a propositional nation. There is no historical case to be made that the Swedish people are anything other than white people. But it doesn’t matter to the religious crusaders for equality and diversity.
The reason they want to divorce Swedishness from whiteness is the same reason their comrades in the United States call this land a nation of immigrants: Because they are anti-white. In the case of America, the equality zealots can at least point to the absence of whiteness from the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution as justification for their morally bankrupt ideas. But they can’t do that with Sweden. They just authoritatively assert that the Swedes don’t really have a common blood or a common ancestry, and they count on the indigenous Swedes to gullibly accept it.
So here’s the million dollar question: If an indigenous white nation like Sweden can be redefined as a proposition nation with a civic nationalist creed, than why do most white Americans accept the anti-white cultural meme that the United States is somehow “uniquely” a nation of immigrants? Until the course of events proves otherwise, the answer appears to be that, at a pre-rational/emotion level, white Americans have fully accepted the moral legitimacy of the Brotherhood of Man. Thus the unfettered success of the “nation of immigrants” meme despite the fact that the equality zealots want to redefine Sweden as the same.
