American Opera is originally form Saginaw, Michigan and recently moved to New York City after a brief stay in Chicago. His influences range from Modest Mouse to Manchester Orchestra with Rilo Kiley and Ben Folds. He has a distinct voice that many fans realize it’s him as soon as he hits the first note. He enjoy engaging his fans with his profound and deep-in-thought lyrics and music.
John is his name and his earlier years of music was spent touring for eight of them in a Michigan-based rock band, Your Best Friend. After the band parted ways in 2011, and John decided he wanted to present his music with the name American Opera, which is a very different genre from the hard rock he was used to playing and performing. He has already performed over 100 shows, in one year, solo and with a full band.
He has been featured in Alternative Press Magazine, alongside artists Cursive and William Elliott Whitmore, and has previously released two EPs. American Opera plans to tour often in 2013 and has just completed a successful spring tour, with a performance at this year’s SXSW Festival in Austin, TX.
