Last night’s episode of “American Pickers” was titled “Cowboys and Cobwebs.” Frank Fritz and Mike Wolfe, are the professional hunters who travel across the country picking through rusty gold; those hidden treasures covered with rust from age. That rusty gold is what keeps them in business, buying low and selling high, but even they find things that they do not want to part with.
As the episode starts, with Mike’s back still giving him trouble, the “American Pickers” are Frank and Danielle. In Arkansas, Danielle has arranged for them to see a professional who is a cowboy who owns tons of stuff that he acquired from auctions, flea markets and garage sales. He calls it his redneck 401k. He is an ex-rodeo rider who has a farm with cattle. He refuses to put a price on his items, and insists that Frank make the first move, if he agrees, he will allow the sale; if not, he will counter.
Danielle sees cow heads with the horns attached and tries to bargain with John and gets five of them for $345 for the Nashville store among more stuff that Frank got like a Will Rogers clock for $250.
They head out to another place with medical equipment. It turned out to be an old hospital, and met with Dr. J.C. Smith. The place was over a century old, and had some quaint pieces. They had to rescue the stuff before the walls fell in on top of them. They bought charts with old antidotes for various poisons. The old medical equipment bordered on torture devices. Danielle sent Mike pictures of medical cabinets, and he liked what he saw. They got them for $350, and $200. They then went to the old operating room, It looked like something from Frankenstein’s laboratory. The large overhead surgical light was sold to Danielle for $425.
Back at the shop, Mike is like a lost soul; he does not know where anything is, and cannot even retrieve his voicemail. Luckily, Danielle hired Emily, who helped him get on track.
Now they are freewheeling and looking for one more stop. They happened on the wonderland of picking. Cotton said he does not sell much, but they are welcome to try. As he was attending all the local garage and church sales. When they were done, whatever was left, was brought to Cotton. This happened to be his home, and it was loaded with stuff. As they continued to strike out, because nothing was for sale, Danielle and Frank saw a pool table and made a bet that if they win, they could at least get a price on something. Cotton ran the table and now they had to leave him something. One of the eye charts was left behind for Cotton.
Back home, Mike was going crazy in the shop and called his brother to come get him. They went to see their 32 Roadster, the “Little Deuce Coupe” they found a few episodes ago. It was amazing to see how much Ben had done, as the car was taking shape. They kept the car restoration from Danielle. She is an ex-Roller Derby girl and would probably kick their butts if she knew they threw $25,000 into this old car.
