America’s Got Talent still enjoys having “surprises” at the results show. And, like always, they are in no way surprising.
Following tradition, three acts were brought out together, starting with Aaralyn & Izzy, Kevin Downey Jr., and Alexanderia the Great.
The result: None of them went through.
Next called forward were Special Head, Fresh Faces, and Hype.
The result: None of them went through again.
The cost of these “shockers,” of course, was making the next results much more predictable, even in spite of them trying to mix it up as much as possible.
The third group were tellAvision, Collins Key, and the KriStef Brothers.
Collins Key, we now know from the recaps, was trending globally after his performance, but the first act confirmed through instead was the KriStef Brothers.
tellAvision started to walk off, but Nick Cannon told them they weren’t done with them yet. At this, both tellAvision and Collins Key started laughing and applauding because, just like all of us at home, they knew what was coming next.
It wasn’t the “you two are too” set-up again. Instead, Cannon confirmed that one was going through and the other was going home, and that he would reveal who right after the break.
Big surprise, it was Collins Key.
From the last set, Branden James was confirmed the third and final automatic qualifier, leaving (not all that surprisingly) Anna Christine and (much more surprisingly) the American Hitmen for the judges vote.
After this, Cannon revealed that the judges (or at least Mandel and Stern) had predicted this exact result; Mandel was shown telling Stern he expected the KriStef Brothers and Key to advance. Stern said that the third would be Branden James, and they argued over whether the fourth would be Anna Christine or the American Hitmen.
The judges’ vote wound up being split, with Heidi Klum siding with Stern in favor of Anna Christine and Mel B. siding with Mandel for the American Hitmen.
The tiebreaker was what many will say it should have been from the start: America’s vote, which went in favor of Anna Christine.
Before this, the next twelve acts who will be performing next week were revealed.
And if I’m honest, it doesn’t look like it’s going to be nearly as good a contest as we had this week. So much so that I can already comfortably make an early forecast right here and now for most likely to advance to least:
- Marty Brown
- Ciana Pelekai
- Angela Hoover
- Dave Shirley
- Innovative Force
- Kid the Wiz
- The Struck Boyz
- Alexandr Magala
- Tone the Chiefrocca
- Brad Byers
