“America’s Got Talent” (NBC) original episodes air each Tuesday night at 9/8 p.m. (Check your local listings). The talent show is still in the audition phase for this TV season & last night’s episode on July 2, 2013 brought us to the cities of Chicago, Illinois & San Antonio, Texas. Native Americans have auditioned for this show over the years & have not gotten beyond their auditions. Native comedian Charlie Ballard was not liked by the audience a few years ago. Powwow dancers & Hoop performers also have not made it past the critical judges. Last night though – two Native American ‘Rappers’ performed their song “Do the Rain Dance” and hilariously won over the judges & the audience. Their names are ‘Lil Mike’ & ‘Funny Bone’ who are actual “Little People.” They were very good & fun to watch.
According to the official website of “America’s Got Talent” (AGT) the synopsis of the show is right here – “NBC’s top-rated summer series from producer Simon Cowell’s ‘Syco Television’ and ‘Fremantle-Media’ North America – returns this summer (2013) with the hottest performers from across the country ready to compete in the blockbuster reality show’s eighth season. The live shows again will originate from the New York tri-state area. This year, high-octane entertainer and former ‘Spice Girl’ Mel B. joins supermodel, designer, producer and TV host Heidi Klum as the newest judges. They’ll take their seats alongside comedian, TV host and producer Howie Mandel and outspoken radio personality and author Howard Stern. This marks the first time that a fourth judge has been added to the panel. Actor, producer and comedian Nick Cannon returns as host.”
‘Lil Mike’ & ‘Funny Bone’ are two short Native American guys who auditioned at San Antonio, Texas. They both wore red t-shirts that spelled out the rap song they were gonna perform “Do the Rain Dance.” They both have long black hair & a great sense of humor about themselves. Howard Stern asked them if they got any dates with girls. ‘Lil Mike’ said, “Just give me a chair. I’ll be alright!” The audience laughed out loud. Howard also asked if they made any money as rap performers. ‘Funny Bone’ said, “About $300 dollars a show.” Howard replied to that with, “That’s a lot of wampum isn’t it?” Referring to the Native American necklace with ‘wampum’ beads.
When they both began their rap song “Do the Rain Dance.” The teen kids in the audience got up & danced. ‘Lil Mike’ & ‘Funny Bone’ performed exactly in unison with their rap lyrics plus their dance moves. The judges were entertained & so was the AGT host Nick Cannon who danced backstage to the song. Judge Howie Mandel said that he couldn’t get the rap song out of his head, “The Rain Dance.” ‘Funny Bone’ said, “Wait til you go outside.” The audience roared with laughter. ‘Lil Mike’ said, “I give it about 30 minutes.” (For it to Rain).
Judge Howard Stern was laughing with enjoyment over ‘Mike/Bone.’ If you listen to the lyrics & the references to party time Native Americans. It is a catchy number & the performance was great to watch. Both of the rap performers were voted onto Las Vegas for the next round of competition on AGT.
