Many know her as the bounty hunter in Image Comics’ Spawn series, but she has recently arrived in the Marvel Universe as seen in Age of Ultron #10. She was created by Neil Gaiman and Todd McFarlane in Spawn #9 in 1993. The character led to a legal battle between the two creators over the rights until the dispute was settled in 2012, with Gaiman given full ownership.
Angela is unaware how she was created but she first sees her past lives after a battle with Argus. During the battle, she is distracted by the face of Deurges and is captured by Argus where she learns she was created from the lives of women who’s souls have been sacrificed and blended together to create Angela. After she eventually escapes and kills Argus, she swears to find Deurges. When Angela first meets Spawn, She immediately attempts to kill him since it’s her duty to kill all Hell’s servants but she is defeated by Simmons. When Al examines and touches a button on Angela’s lance, he is sent to a dream world and upon returning, Angela and her lance have vanished.
Spawn later came to Angela’s aid in Heaven when she is falsely accused of hunting without a permit but the courts in Heaven refused to listen and insisted on killing Simmons. It is eventually revealed Angela had indeed received a permit from Gabrielle but since she held a grudge against Angela, she used her defeat against Spawn as an opportunity to frame her. Upon the end of the trial, the Angels in the courtroom begin attacking Simmons so Angela is forced to help him and the two ends up in a corner of Hell where they fight their way out. Rather than returning to Earth with Simmons, Angela makes her way back to Heaven and informs her friends she will now become a freelance Angel from that point on.
Later, Urizen was released by two demons named Ab and Zab so Angela aided Simmons with defeating the two demons after Spawn’s initial defeat. Angela then rushed back to Heaven in order to stop Tiffany and her group from going to Earth which could start an apocalypse but she did not believe her so Angela single-handedly fought the group to keep them from entering. Angela and Spawn then soon teamed again to capture Urizen and seal him away in his earthly prison, later learning Malebolgia had originally given the order to release him. Soon after resealing Urizen, both Spawn and Angela entered Hell for a final fight with Malebolgia where she mortally wounds him.
While the two attempt to escape after Simmons is severely injured, Angela is killed by Malebolgia so Spawn beheads him with Angela’s sword before taking her body to her fellow Angels. From the fallout of the Age of Ultron, Angela appears in the Marvel Universe and will become a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy so does that mean she will appear in the upcoming film?
