As many of you know Facebook is one of the largest social media sites in the world but most don’t know that it can be a great place to get help in the time of need. Most think it is a site to just post pictures of kittens and babies as well as playing games well this may change your mind as this is what the Tampa/St. Petersburg area is using it for.
Allison Feeley has a little girl named Samantha, 6 yrs old, who has been diagnosed with an anaphylactic allergy to peanuts and dairy in June, 2007 at only 6 months old. Since then their daily lives require emergency medicines in tow. The family has given everything to keep Samantha safe and just want her to have a normal life.
They then found an organization that can try to add a bit of normalcy to their daughters life called “Angel Service Dogs” which supply special needs dogs to specifically help add another “defense” against peanuts and dairy that they, parents, can’t provide. This dog is being trained to sniff out peanuts, peanut oil, and dairy products on items such as a classroom, backpacks, shopping cart and common places others would take for granted as being “safe.” and yes the dogs name is “Angel”.
Unfortunately the cost of getting the dog doesn’t come cheap and cost $20,000 dollars and they didn’t have the money so Allison took to Facebook and started a page to try and get help from the social media community in raising the money needed.
Well it is working. ABC Action News reporter John Thomas heard about this and did a news report on little Samantha and her story which in turn started to snowball with requests to help. ‘Kinderland Dolls.’ ( www.kinderlanddolls.net ) owner Susanne Oeren has set up a spot on her website where 100% of the sales from her Plush Animals will go straight to Samantha.
Then Constance Hilton, owner of The Bay Buzz, saw the story on ABC and she came right to the music community and asked everyone of her friends if there was something they could do and right away the music community said absolutely and they proceeded to set up a major benefit to help raise money for little Samantha.
Within 24 hours they had the venue, all the bands, 2 radio stations to do live remotes of the event and donations for the raffles. Just from one post of Facebook. Then they issued a press release and once again John Thomas got wind of what was going on and he did an update of little Samantha and it aired on the evening news.

Tampa Bay Area Musicians & Businesses To Hold Benefit For Little Girl Who Requires A Special Needs Dog
July 23, 2013 – Tampa/St. Petersburg, FL – The Bay Buzz (http://www.thebaybuzz.org/), WSNR Social Network Radio (http://socialnetworkradio.info/ ), CJ’s On The Island (http://www.cjsonti.com/ ), Seminole Music & Sound (http://www.seminolemusic.com/ ), Angel Service Dogs (http://www.angelservicedogs.com/ ) and various musicians from the Tampa/St. Petersburg area are holding a benefit to help raise money for a little girl who desperately requires a special needs dog on August 25th, 2013 at CJ’s On The Island in Treasure Island, FL from 1pm – 9pm.
Samantha was diagnosed with an anaphylactic allergy to peanuts and dairy in June, 2007 at only 6 months old. Since then her daily life require emergency medicines in tow. Going out to eat is extremely rare for Samantha; a trip to a restaurant could be deadly. Trips to stores include avoiding isles with peanuts, the bakery and other high risk areas. Because she has no way of knowing if a classroom is safe, Samantha is unable to attend school. Samantha does not have the opportunity to go to school because at any given time she could touch or smell something from a student or a classroom and she would need emergency medication and an ambulance. Now six years old, Samantha should be going to school, playing at a friend’s house, or going to dance class without the fear of a life threatening situation.
Our goal is to raise $20,000 for the training of an Angel Service Dog named Angel so Samantha, age 6, can go to school & live a normal life. Angel Service Dogs are trained to accompany kids with these life threatening allergies and detect the presence of allergens to alert the child of possible exposure.
The benefit will feature 8 LIVE music acts on 2 stages, raffles, auctions, a buffet & much more with 100% of the proceeds collected going directly to Samantha’s fund to get the special needs dog.
A special page has been set up by Angel Service Dogs and donations can be made directly to Angel Service Dogs™, Inc. (www.AngelServiceDogs.com), a 501c3 organization, which makes donations tax deductible (if using PayPal, please designate for the training of Angel). For more info please contact Constance Hilton at email@example.com
The benefit will feature 8 Live Music Acts on 2 stages including, Den of Thieves, Josephine’s Machine, 50/50, The Leigh Humes Band, 3 Pint Harmony, Michael J Weiss, Savii, Dean Johanesen and is being held August 25th from 1pm til 9pm at CJ’s On The Island at 115 107th Ave, Treasure Island, FL.

For those who cant make the benefit a special page has been set up by Angel Service Dogs and donations can be made directly to Angel Service Dogs™, Inc. (www.AngelServiceDogs.com), a 501c3 organization, which makes donations tax deductible (if using PayPal, please designate for the training of Angel). So far she has raised $2,312 so she has a ways to go to reach the required amount needed to train the special needs dog of $20,000 please help if you can.
So as you can see social media is not just used for posting pictures and videos but can be used for much more which can really make a difference in someones life and the Tampa/St. Petersburg area sure knows how to use it to it’s fullest.
