The Aristocrat Pub, located near the corner of 52nd and College in South Broad Ripple, is a quaint neighborhood bar. With a robust selection of draft beers, fine pub food, and an outstanding brunch, The Aristocrat caters to beer sophisticates morning, noon, or night. The Aristocrat has plenty of bike racks available for the more athletic or Earth friendly folks, and with outdoor seating available and separate bar and dinning rooms, there is plenty of space for families and drinkers alike.
The draft beers selection at The Aristocrat is equally impressive in both size and selection. We are not talking about Budweiser, Bud Lite, and Bud Lite Lime either. You’ll get your local rotating selections from Flat 12, Sun King and Fountain Square Brewing Co as well as some uncommon selections from Bells, Three Floyds, and Rogue, including the delicious Rogue Double Chocolate Stout. The menu is subject to change but with close to 60 taps there should be something pleasing for beer aficionados and regular drinkers alike.
The food here is all quite good, but the soups are terrific. They change daily, but if you catch the cream of artichoke soup, you are in for a treat. A silky broth, with tender artichoke hearts and corn makes for a luxurious combination of both savory and sweet. The clam chowder is also expertly made. Even with large chunks of clam and smoky pieces of bacon the chowder comes off as flavorful yet light, and it is a great way to start a meal.
The fish and chips at The Aristocrat are good, but not great. Two large cod fillets are hand breaded and fried to a golden brown, but are nothing spectacular. The house made tarter sauce is a pretty good accompaniment to the fish; it is a creamy dill based sauce and a suitable alternative for those who do not like malt vinegar. Also from the sea, but considerably better is the grilled tuna sandwich. A large tuna steak is cooked to what ever temperature you like and served with grilled pineapple and a spicy mango salsa. If you aren’t a fan of seafood they have plenty of other normal items to choose from. Stick with the sandwiches and burgers. The pastas, like the fish and chips, are good, but nothing special.
The brunch selections are terrific. Quite possibly the best pancakes ever served at bar can be found here. Light, fluffy, and with a nice buttery flavor, these pancakes would do well at any restaurant. The crab cakes Benedict is a sophisticated play on the traditional eggs Benedict. The large house made crab cake has a hint of fishiness and pairs well with the savory hollandaise sauce. Topped off with a perfectly poached egg and served with either fresh fruit or the cheesy hash brown casserole, this is a unique breakfast treat. The hash brown casserole is a concoction of potatoes, and cheese with undertones of onion. Consider having the pancakes with a nice creamy stout or the crab cake Benedict with a nice IPA.
The Aristocrat is a terrific place in spend the afternoon or evening in South Broad Ripple. The service is great, and the servers and hosts could not be more pleasant to be around. The atmosphere is as inviting and warm as the staff and has a real comfortable vibe. It’s time to relive those college days of kegs and eggs, but this time with better beer and terrific food.
