Arrested Development season four was released on Netflix on Sunday May 26th. So it’s time for a healthy dose of the Bluth family. It’s time we all find out what they have been up to. Is family still the most important thing? Below is a look back at prior seasons; then check out the slide show that covers the new season four episodes, with no spoilers.
Season one introduced us to the Bluth family and the Bluth company which builds houses. They run into trouble with the federal government, and it’s up to Michael, the self appointed responsible one, to keep the business and family together and out of trouble. He also wants to set a good example for this son, George Michael. The season goes on to set the stage for inside jokes and reoccurring developments throughout the series.
The family is headed by George Sr. and Lucille Bluth. We meet GOB, the eldest sibling and aspiring magician. Lindsay is Michael’s twin and always protesting something. She is married to Tobias, an analyst, therapist, and going after his new found dream of being an actor. Maeby is the daughter of Lindsay and Tobias and tries to be a rebel whenever she can. Buster is the youngest sibling in the Bluth family and is a mother’s boy. Throughout the first season, George Sr. has interesting activities in prison, the company battles rivals, former employees try to blackmail the family, and blind lawyers try to close the case on all of the strange (and hilarious) events that take place.
Season two spends time on George’s escape from prison while the family and company are still under investigation. His twin brother, Oscar, also gets into the mix and gets mixed up with his brothers legal troubles. Buster has dangerous adventures in the army and with a loose seal. Lindsay, Tobias, and Maeby try to work on their unhealthy family relationships and involve the Blue Man group, a fake British nanny (Mrs. Featherbottom), and Ice. Michael and GOB battle over the family business. George Michael battles his feelings over Maeby and Ann.
Season three gets into the details behind the Bluth family legal trouble: they have been set up by the Brits! This introduces and continues a number of special guest star appearances: a special British spy, a new lawyer, a new judge, a new urban Bluth, a professional magician, among others.
During the filming of the final season, their were issues off-set with legal issues, the future of the show on Fox, and the cult following the show received. The writers brilliantly incorporated the real life drama into episodes with coy references and obvious gags.
