Description: The goal of this training series is for administrators and their school-based teams (professional learning communities of approximately 8 members and an administrator) to participate in phase 1, year 1 of a 2 year commitment that supports administrative facilitation and implementation of a Professional Learning Community (PLC). The focus of professional learning is in reference to the embedding of formative assessment techniques within classroom instruction. School-based teams (professional learning communities) will be provided with an overview of formative assessment and a professional development tool for use (Embedding Formative Assessment: A Professional Development Pack for Schools) during this implementation process. The main goal is to assist teams with the improvement of student learning through planned implementation and coaching in the area of formative assessment as a practice and to focus on specific techniques that are tied to five key learning strategies. In addition, PaTTAN educational consultants will facilitate 3 days of training and 2 days of on-site support to each participating PLC team per year. Participants will develop competencies related to the interpretation and application of formative assessment data relative to these five strategies and refine their ability to adapt instruction and enhance student outcomes. Professional learning in the area of formative assessment occurs within the context of a professional learning community.
Act 48 clock hours will be available. Participants must commit to the requirements and obligations of the program in full. Participation will be granted on a first come, first-served basis via the registration process.
Audience: School-Based Professional Learning Communities with approximately 8 team members in addition to one Building Administrator; Trainings at PaTTAN require a minimum of one building administrator and teacher leader or instructional coach.
