According to attorney Daryl Parks, the family of Trayvon Martin is confident that a jury will find George Zimmerman guilty in the shooting death of the slain Florida teen, reports CBS News on June 19, 2013.
On Tuesday, prosecutors and Zimmerman’s lawyers narrowed the jury pool down to 40 possible contenders, who will now face a second round of questioning.
Family attorney, Daryl Parks told CBS Martin’s family believes jurors will be able to look at the case impartially and make a competent decision.
He said, “I think the family feels very optimistic they can still get full justice for Trayvon… most importantly, they’ve been able to hear there are a great number of people who can be impartial and fair and deliver justice.”
Parks also stated that when all of the evidence in the case is taken as a whole, “it should lead to a conviction of George Zimmerman.”
Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch captain, fatally shot Martin, 17, on Feb. 26, 2012 during an altercation. He claims Martin attacked him and he acted in self-defense.
According to CBS, one potential juror said the teen “got aggressive” and was looking for a fight. She said he “already had drugs in his system or could have been high…”
The jury prospect said her conclusions were based on images and text messages posted on the Internet by the defense. CBS reports the photos show Martin blowing smoke and holding a gun, while the texts “refer to Martin’s alleged past fighting.”
Questioning of potential jurors continues Wednesday morning at 9 a.m.
