Baby Jasleen was Germany’s heaviest baby ever born but even more surprising is that the little girl was delivered vaginally. On July 30, Mail Online reported that the baby was so big because of an undiagnosed case of gestational diabetes. The baby’s mother, Maria, 31, said that she was shocked to see just how big of a baby she had delivered.
“My 11-year-old daughter was a third of her weight, my two-year-old son a little under that. My stomach was a lot bigger this time around but I had no idea there was such a giant inside,” Maria said.
Baby Jasleen was born on Friday at the University Hospital in Leipzig, Germany and she weighed 13lb 4oz. While a baby of that size would normally be born via C-section, Maria gave birth vaginally, something that is simply painful to even think about.
The baby is said to be doing well but is still in neonatal intensive care at the hospital. Doctors need to monitor over the next several days to make sure that she is okay. Being born at such a large weight can cause complications including macrosomia which can come with a number of varying risk factors.
Baby Jasleen didn’t beat the world record of heaviest baby. She was shy by ten pounds.
