The “Bachelorette” was a bit boring this season, but Monday night’s episode made up for every boring moment there ever was on any of the “Bachelor” or “Bachelorette” shows, but unfortunately to the extent that it took putting Desiree in unprecedented misery to do this. As Fox News on July 30, suggests, “Wow” is about all you can say after last night’s episode. Now you understand why the finale was cut into two episodes, this was too much to take in all at once.
Desiree fell in love with Brooks, she wasn’t feeling the same for her other two suitors. Holding true to the show’s format, she kept this to herself. The hometown visits were over last week, so it was a bit confusing when the “Bachelorette” showed an extended clip of Brooks with his family after Desiree had left his house on last night’s episode, after all, those visits were over.
Once you heard what Brooks had to say, this was not only a bombshell, but it was easy to see how this could be the end of this “Bachelorette” season for Desiree. He told his family while he has given it his all and loves some of the things about Des, he doesn’t feel enough for her to say “I love you.” He doesn’t think that she’s that one and only he’s been searching for. Brook says to his family:
“The idea of proposing to her at the end of this makes me really uncomfortable.”
Fox describes what happens next as “almost cruel” as Desiree at the same time is confessing her true feelings for Brooks, which is that she is in love with this man. She says she has the deepest feelings for Brooks, out of the three men left.
While Des is telling the camera:
“I’m in love with Brooks and I miss him every day that I’m not with him.”
Brooks asks to speak to Chris Harrison and drops this on his lap:
“I don’t feel like I’ll regret this…I think I’ve come to a conclusion where I don’t think that Des is the love of my life,” Brooks told the host. “I gave it everything that I had and I love so many things about Desiree, but I’m not in love with her.”
This was just plain cruel, the show let Desiree meet up again with Brooks thinking that she will spend some time with the man she really loves. She knew as soon as she saw his face that he was going to bow out. Brooks stumbles on his words and rambles a bit, but it all comes out. She’s not the one because he doesn’t miss her enough when their apart seemed to be what Brooks was basing his lack of love on. This is when she breaks down in tears and tells him:
“I love you, I do,” Des said through tears. “You’re the only one that I could say that to. It sucks because for once in my life I was hopeful. It just sucks that I loved you. I do love you, regardless.”
This was almost too embarrassing to watch, you found yourself feeling the horrid embarrassment that Des must have felt after her desperate moment was over. Brooks leaves, but he doesn’t go too far and starts pacing.
Des runs back to the dock in hysterics, she’s just been dumped on national TV in a show that’s basically set up for her to do the dumping. Her words made the viewing audience wonder if this “Bachelorette” will end differently than the rest. Des says:
“This throws everything off, having Brooks gone,” Des said. “It breaks my heart. I just can’t love [Drew and Chris] as much as they love me and that’s not what they deserve. Honestly, for me it’s over.”
While this was a show hot in emotions, it felt cruel to watch the demise of this young girl’s love life as it played out. Knowing what Brooks was thinking, the folks behind the camera let this play out in such a cruel way that it was hard to watch. What will happen during the second half of the finale? Hopefully they wrap it up in some way that Des doesn’t have to lose any more of her dignity.
