Heavy rains and bad weather couldn’t stop Paul McCartney from rocking the BOK Center in Tulsa, OK, Wednesday. A severe weather alert was in effect for most of Oklahoma, according to Weather.com, but the show went on.
Wednesday was Paul McCartney Day in the state, thanks to a proclamation by Gov. Mary Fallin.
Ticket prices for the show dropped down as low as $4 on resale sites. Some tickets under $50 were still available for the Thursday show at this story was written.
“Hey Tulsa! I’ve got a feeling we’re gonna have some fun tonight!,” McCartney told the crowd, according to the BOK Center Twitter account. Later in the show, he came on stage to an enormous roar waving the Oklahoma flag. The center said McCartney also dedicated “Let It Be” to those affected in Oklahoma by the devastating weather.
“@paulmccartney just made it 1000 degrees warmer in the BOK Center with Live and Let Die!,” the center tweeted at one point. And possibly in reference to the weather conditions, it also sent the lyrics to “Band on the Run,” “”Well the rain exploded with a mighty crash as we fell into the sun” #nowplaying Band On The Run @PaulMcCartney #rockthebok.”
He had previously played the arena on Aug. 17, 2009. His songs that night included “Only Mama Knows,” “Flaming Pie,” “Got to Get You Into My Life,” “Calico Skies” and “I Saw Her Standing There.”
“Thank you to @paulmcartney for a brilliant and stunning show tonite! See you tomorrow for night #2!,” the BOK Center tweeted at the show’s end.
McCartney plays one more show at BOK Center Thursday night, then takes an eight-day break before heading to New York City’s Barclay’s Center for two shows June 8 and 10.
