Redmond-based Microsoft is adding 600 brick & mortar stores without the hassle of having to go through all the expense of construction or rent. How is this possible you might being asking? The answer is that through a partnership with technology retail giant Best Buy.
Yesterday, both Best Buy and Microsoft announced that through the partnership between the two giants they will be creating 500 Windows stores in Best Buy in the United States and an additional 100 Windows stores in both Best Buy and Future shop in Canada. These Windows stores will be range from 1.500 to 2,200 square feet where customers will be able gain hands on experience of all the great Windows devices and Xbox before buying them.
“The Windows Store offers a large-scale, hands-on customer experience that will show customers how Windows and Microsoft devices and services can make it easier for them to work and play,” said Tami Reller, chief marketing officer and chief financial officer of the Windows Division at Microsoft. “We’re pleased to partner with Best Buy in bringing the latest technologies to consumers at scale in a unique environment where they can explore how Microsoft products fit together across entertainment, travel, music and other scenarios.”
Besides the physical Windows store, Best Buy is also adding a Windows section to their website. Much like Microsoft’s own website on the Best Buy section you will be able shop for all of the Windows-based devices, Microsoft software and Xbox consoles, games and accessories.
The partnership with Microsoft isn’t the first time that Best Buy has created these mini-stores. Earlier this year they did similar in shop stores for both Apple and Samsung. According to Jason Bonfig, Best Buy’s vice president of merchant computing those store average about one fifth the scale of the Windows stores.
