We are approaching the end of this summer. Very soon school will be back in session and we have to prepare for it by going to the stores and purchasing all the needed supplies. But wait, there are still a couple of weeks left of summer vacation. There are places all over S. Fl where you can take the kids. You can stay local and have tons of fun. Some are a short drive away while others are a few hours. Either way you have options if you want to stay close to home. Here’s a list of summer staycation activities for the kiddos.
This is a relaxing place which can be enjoyed in a morning or an afternoon. As the name indicates the butterfly is the main attraction here. You can go into their habitat and have them fly all around you. There are also aviaries where you can see a number of birds. This is a great place for children of all ages.
Weekend Trip to Orlando
Everyone who lives in FL has the privilege of being rather close to Orlando where you can find a plethora of amusement parks. Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World, and many other places await you. This is a rather satisfying trip whether its done as week long or short getaway. It can even be made into a day trip.
Parrot Jungle Island
There are not just parrots here. There are a number of animals to see including lions, ligers, penguins. They take numerous pictures of you with all different types of critters even a baby tiger (this can get costly) Located on the causeway which leads to South Beach one could start here and continue on to South Beach for more fun. There are some wonderful parks along the beach on the Ocean Drive boardwalk
Busch Gardens in Tampa is just another short drive away from S.Florida. It features an impressive array of roller coasters as well as great animal encounters. You can get up and close and feed the giraffes amongst others.
You can enjoy two science museums in S. FL one in Ft. Lauderdale and another in Miami. They are both quite different but nice in their own right. In Miami there is a planetarium and Ft. Lauderdale’s has an I-Max theater. A new museum structure is under construction in Miami (looks amazing) but it won’t open until 2015.
Morikami Museum and Japanese Garden
This is a place where kids can learn about Japanese culture while still being able to explore the outdoors Its beautiful, relaxing and good for all ages here. There is usually a special event going on so check their site before visiting.
This one of the best weekend getaways in S. FL. There are many water sports to partake in including swimming with the dolphins and other sea animals for the kids. You can take it easy in one of the keys or go down to Key West for a bit of a busier pace.
