The undead have been warming our still beating hearts ever since the “Night of the Living Dead” films. However, in the past decade alone, zombies have been celebrated in an extraordinary growth. From comic books to a sitcom on cable television, fans have been expressing their gratitude from zombie walks, cosplay, and L.A.R.P.ing. Artists have even dedicated their craft, illustrations, paintings and writings to the culture of zombie. This year, on August 17th and 18th, Detroit will be showcasing this dedication with everything zombie at the first Zombie Con at the Motion Picture Institute of Troy.
Located at the Motion Picture Institute of Troy, Detroit Zombie Con is ravaging the 3 sound stages MPI offers with zombie enthusiasts of all kind selling their trade to the fans. Along with vendors, a few special movies will be unveiled in a first time screening, for one of them it will be the fist time in America. The Undertaker, a Japanese production by Naoyoshi Kawamatsu is making it’s first time silver screen appearance on US soil for a one time screening before it’s official release in 2015. Anchor Bay’s production Battle of the Damned starring Dolph Lundgren, is making it’s much anticipated viewing before the film is released in 2014! There will be other great films featured as well as the documentary by Rue Morgue, Birth of the Living Dead.
Other fun festivities will be enjoyed by zombie aficionados throughout Zombie Con. The 1st Annual Miss Zombie Con Pin-Up will take place on Saturday, August 17th at 5pm. Special guest judges from three of Detroit’s top internet radio stations will be making their choice selections from the talent and beauty of the contestants. Notable television and radio personality, Denzil Bursey, will MC the lovely, dead beauties as they are escorted by hunky, flesh eating chaperons along the stage. The winner of Miss Zombie Con will receive a coveted walk on role to the upcoming Anchor Bay feature film Mimesis 2: Night of the Living Dead starring pop culture icon, Sid Haig. They will also receive many other prizes including a photo shoot donated by experienced pin-up photographer Steven Jon Horner.
Before the zombie pageant will be a special treat by Motor City Belly Dance and Shetan Noir, zombie belly dancers! As they roll heir bellies and shimmy their rigor-ed hips these beautiful corpses will dazzle your imagination as well as your imagination. At the end of Saturday’s convention, please stay around for the haunt attraction based on Anchor Bay’s feature film, Mimesis. As you walk through the blood soaked hallways, you will have your wits flayed off your souls as your screams boil through your lungs as popular zombie characters from the movie use their undead skills to frighten you.
All zombie enthusiasts empty your calender for this year’s 2013 Detroit Zombie Con at the Motion Picture Institute of Troy, MI. there will be plenty of zombie lovers selling their art to the public as gorgeous zombies strap on their belly dance skirts and twirl their hips for you you. Don’t forget the dozens of dead beauty hopefuls killing their talent for the judges to become the 1st Miss Zombie Con Pin-Up.
