Beyonce’s Mrs. Carter Show world tour returned to Atlantic City to perform in Boardwalk Hall Friday evening July 26, 2013. The combination of fans standing in the center of the floor, ten feet from the stage, joined the remaing fans seated around the sides all who filled to capacity (14,000) “Sold Out” venue. Boardwalk Hall was in a continual roar as the lights dimmed signaling the start of the show.
Many concerts, especially large productions with pyrotechnics, laser lighting and stage sized screens and sets post a starting time, but rarely hit it. A testament to the professionalism and the respect Beyonce has for her fans, the show which was scheduled to begin at 9:00 pm, did exactly that.
Beyonce is no stranger to Atlantic City . The filled to capacity audience, for Destiny’s Child in the Trump Taj Mahal, Mark G. Etess Arena on Friday evening in December, 2000, spent almost the entire evening standing, screaming, dancing and waving their arms in the air over their heads. Responding to the call of Beyonce Knowles, lead singer of Destiny’s Child to, “Put your hands in the air like this” (waving her hand over her head), set the tone for the one hour and fifteen minute, ten song, two dance number concert. Fresh from receiving the Billboard “Artist Of The Year” award and riding high on their #1 hit, “Independent Women,” (the soundtrack from “Charlie’s Angels), Destiny’s Child brought their endless energy to the show and proved beyond a shadow of doubt why the group has sold over 8 million albums. She was also in Atlantic city in 2007, May of 2012 all to “Sold Out” audiences.
The ageless singer, songwriter and actress, who is now thirty-one, had her legions of fans moving and screaming from the millisecond she stepped on stage to the very last note ending of the show. Beyonce has matured as a performer since her days with Destiny’s Child not to mention now being a mother and a wife. However, she does not appear to have lost a step, her energy, her choreography, her voice and her ability to thrill an audience is better now then ever. With more than twenty Beyonce songs to sing and dance along too the audience appeared to be becoming exhausted while Beyonce never lost a step or even slowed down for a second.
Costume changes from sequins to leather and full length dresses only embellished what Beyonce was doing on stage. Enhancing the music and dancing were the ever changing sets that included superb lighting and every fans favorite . . . pyrotechnics.
Looking out over her fans standing shoulder to shoulder of the floor od the Hall, about ten feet from the stage, it appeared that Beyonce had thousands of back-up singers as the audience not only knew every word to the songs but were belting it out with the same energy as Beyonce.
Beyonce is not afraid to push the limits. She does not hesitate to include in her concerts those things that she believes with please her fans. These extras go above and beyond her exceptional talent. When you inject the outstanding production and costume elements to Beyonce’s charisma and talent it is no wonder that “The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour “ in most areas have been “Sold Out” venues. She is one entertainer when you see live adds to her luster. She has already has established a legacy and set a standard to be attained. Her millions of fans are impatiently waiting for Beyonce to take them to the next level, if that is possible.
