Bill O’Reilly lost his temper, when faced with facts that disagreed with his opinion about the so-called food stamp bombers.
The Fox News network is well known for the ability of its commentators to froth up right-wing outrage over any issue they perceive as being too liberal, too against their conservative platform or just plain too Obama-friendly.
According to a Politicus report, Tuesday night, during “O’Reilly Factor,” the round table discussion featured Bill’s diatribe against the Boston bomber’s family and their use of social services. Monica Crowley opined indignantly about how America has become a “entitlement society that is out of control” when people can come to the country and live on “a permanent handout.”
But Alan Colmes refused to jump into their self-righteous sand box by saying, “I think this is manufactured outrage to go after people who are on welfare, go after immigrants.”
Alan was consistently cut off and berated by O’Reilly, which is his standard treatment of anyone, who comes on his show and lays out a cogent, factual argument about why he is wrong. O’Reilly doesn’t like to be wrong and he likes it even less, when it is adeptly pointed out to him, as Colmes managed to do.
Bill and Monica were attempting to paint immigrants with a very broad brush of intentionally blood-sucking the American welfare system, because the parents of accused bombers, Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaevs received state aid when the children were growing up and later, Tameralan and his wife received assistance while she was pregnant.
Media reports have summarily concluded the families benefited from $100,000 dollars, although state documents have just recently been turned over for a thorough investigation, according to the Boston Herald.
“I can assure members of the public that this committee will actively review every single piece of information we can find because clearly the public has a substantial right to know what benefits, if any, this family or individuals accused of some horrific crimes were receiving,” said state Rep. David Linsky (D-Natick), the committee’s chairman.
Nonetheless, Bill O’Reilly was on a serious vendetta to blame the Obama administration for a system that allowed this family to rake in a bonanza of $100G, all the while driving a Mercedes. He clamored about the lack of “supervision” over who should receive welfare, when they come to this country and it shouldn’t be potential terrorists. Also, Bill demanded to know why members of the family were allowed to occasionally go back to Russia for “vacations.”
Alan Colmes, who was not defending the acts of the bombers, was rightly attempting to point out that it would have been impossible to predict the brothers would grow up and set off two bombs at the Boston Marathon. He pointed out the parents were in the country legally and the fifteen year old 1998 Mercedes they drove would be worth maybe a few thousand dollars.
O’Reilly continued to repeatedly interrupted Colmes, but he kept on getting the facts out anyway. He said that even if it gets confirmed the family received $100G in benefits over a ten year period it would amount to a paltry $10,000 per year, which is not exactly living high on the hog.
Finally, Bill had had enough truth-telling (to borrow a phrase from Sarah Palin) and shouted at Colmes, “shut up, shut up.”
Based on the distorted conservative philosophy by king-pin Bill O’Reilly and other conservative pundits at Fox News, where most of the GOP base gets its information; immigrants, who legally enter and live in the United States should be denied any transitional safety net benefits, because their offspring might grow up to be terrorists.
