All the headlines on Sunday were on the trades of Dave Bolland and Michael Frolik which led to the resigning of Bryan Bickell. But the Blackhawks were able to make a few draft choices. Here are some quick write-ups on the players.
Ryan Hartman, RW, Plymouth, OHL
Hartman was drafted 30th overall in the first round. He is a 5’11, 181 forward who is an agitator type of forward. He has been compared to Andrew Shaw and Brad Marchand. Hartman recorded 23 goals and 60 points in 56 games with 120 penalty minutes. Hartman grew up in East Dundee, IL.
Carl Dahlstrom, D, Sweden Jr. U-18
Dahlstrom was selected 51st overall with the pick they received in the Bolland trade. Dahlstrom is a big puck moving defenseman who brings some size at 6’3 and 210 lbs. Dahlstrom scored 7 goals in 40 games this season in Sweden.
John Hayden, C, USHL, US U-18
Hayden is a big physical center at 6’2 and 220 lbs. He will be attending Yale this year. Hayden scored 15 goals and 14 assists in 45 games which was good for second on the team. Hayden was selected with the 74th overall pick in the third round that came in the Frolik trade.
Robin Norell, D, Sweden Jr. U-18
Norell played for the Sweden Jr. U-18 along with Dahlstrom. He scored 10 goals in 30 games. Norell was picked 111th overall in the fourth round that was the other pick that came in the Bolland trade. Norell is 5’11 and 176 lbs.
Tyler Motte, C, USHL, U-18
Motte was selected 121st overall in the fourth round. Motte scored 21 goals and 16 assists in 57 games with 40 penalty minutes. Motte is 5’11 and 190 lbs.
Luke Johnson, C, USHL, Lincoln
Johnson is a 5’11 center that weighs 178 lbs. He was taken 134th overall in the fifth round with the other pick that the Blackhawks received in the Frolik trade. Johnson has recorded 39 goals and 62 assists in 112 games in the past two years.
Anthony Louis, C, USHL, U-18
Louis was selected 181st overall in the sixth round. At 5’7 and 155 lbs, Louis is a small center who brings a lot of offense. In two seasons, Louis has scored 45 goals and 40 assists in 109 games. Louis is a native of Winfield, IL.
Robin Press, D, Almtuna, Sweden-2
The Blackhawks chose their third defenseman from Sweden to end the draft. Press was chosen in the seventh round with the final pick of the draft at 211. Press is a 6’2 and 185 lbs and will bring some size to the blue line. Press scored 9 goals in 67 games.
