“Healing in the Heartland: Relief Benefit Concert,” is currently being held at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma and televised live on NBC on May 29, 2013. The relief effort for the people affected by last week’s tornado was organized by headliner Blake Shelton, who stars in NBC’s “The Voice.” The live concert, which started at 9 p.m. ET, is being televised on NBC Television Network.
Performers for the benefit concert include award winning artists Miranda Lambert, Reba, Vince Gill, Luke Bryan, Rascal Flatts, Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic, Usher and Darius Rucker.
Tragedy tore through Moore, Oklahoma, nine days ago, leaving the area devastated. People lost their homes, and some cases, their lives. The people of Oklahoma now have to face the struggle to rebuild their homeland.
The concert was announced on May 24 and tickets sold out within five minutes. Viewers can see and hear the concert on NBC Television Network. The concert will also be shown on cable networks Style, G44, Bravo, E! and CMT, either live or on a delayed basis.
Country stars Blake Shelton, who is hosting the concert, announced the concert and stated that viewers can donate to the cause through United Way; by calling 1-800-890-4999 during the telethon, texting TEXTREBUILD to 52000 for a one time $10 donation; or visiting Facebook/UnitedWay.
“Everyone has their way to help, and mine as an entertainer is to perform to help raise money and awareness for this tragedy,” Oklahoma native Shelton said, in a press release from NBC Television Network. “This is why I want to do this special and especially hold it in Oklahoma City, which is near ground zero.”
Shelton was born and raised in Oklahoma and currently resides in the city of Tishomingo. Shelton and Reba also hosted the 2011 “Tornado Relief Concerts,” for victims affected by the Antoka County tornadoes.
The event is raising funds for the United Way of Central Oklahoma May Tornadoes Relief Fund. Working with their local community partners, United Way of Central Oklahoma will use the Fund for immediate, intermediate and long-term recovery and rebuilding efforts in Oklahoma following the tornadoes that devastated Moore.
