The Wilmette Theatre will host the Chicago premiere of Sofia Coppola’s The Bling Ring starring Emma Watson and Winnetka native Katie Chang, who will give a post-show talkback on Monday, June 17. The Red Carpet event begins at Gilson’s restaurant on 1126 Central Avenue with cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and a bling-inspired silent auction at 6:30 p.m. to benefit the not-for-profit theater on 1122 Central Avenue in Wilmette. In Chicago, Music Box Theatre hosts a variety of special screenings and appearances, starting with the third annual Summer Music Film Festival from Friday, June 28 to Tuesday, July 2, 2013. Presented by Music Box Theatre and Chicago Public Radio’s Sound Opinions, the event will screen more than a dozen features including the documentary Downloaded about the rise and fall of Napster, with director Alex Winter (co-star of Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure) scheduled to appear.
Curb Your Enthusiasm co-star Jeff Garlin takes the director’s chair with the IFC Films release Dealing With Idiots which enjoys an exclusive Chicago engagement at Music Box Theatre, starting on Friday, July 12. Garlin stars with Christopher Guest, Fred Willard, Bob Odenkirk, J.B. Smoove, Gina Gershon, Kerri Kenney, Jami Gertz, Timothy Olyphant, Richard Kind, Steve Agee, Jim Sheridan and Nia Vardalos in this improvised comedy about the parents of a little league baseball team. Garlin will be in attendance for an opening weekend showing to introduce the movie and conduct an audience Q&A.
National Theatre Live broadcasts performances from London to Music Box with This House starring Charlie Buckland and Phil Daniels at noon on Saturday, June 15, and at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25; and The Audience starring Academy Award-winner Helen Mirren playing Elizabeth II (again) at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, and at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3.
On Saturday, July 13, Music Box Theatre will screen The Unholy Three at noon. The silent film about a sideshow ventriloquist, midget and strongman who commit a series of robberies stars Lon Chaney and Mae Busch. The film will be shown with live musical accompaniment by Dennis Scott on the organ.
