The magic number 14 slot in Bob Dylan’s set was really special earlier tonight, as he performed The Band’s “The Weight” at Farm Bureau Live in Virginia Beach. According to Bob Links, Dylan was joined on stage by My Morning Jacket’s Jim James and Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy on acoustic guitars.
The spirit of the Band has hovered over the AmericanaramA tour. Ryan Bingham performed “Don’t Do It” a couple of times, and Garth Hudson shared the stage with Wilco in Saratoga Springs.
Dylan has performed “The Weight” on stage before. In 1975, Dylan joined Neil Young, Ben Keith, Tim Drummond, and, from the Band, Garth Hudson, Rick Danko, and Levon Helm, for a version at the S.N.A.C.K. Benefit at Golden Gate Park, and in 1988, Dylan again joined Helm at the Lone Star Care in New York.
