Two goals in the opening eleven minutes of the match helped the visiting Ocean City Nor’easters defeat the Baltimore Bohemians, 3-1, on Saturday evening at Ridley Athletic Complex.
The visitors found the back of the net on their first two shots of the game. In the 7th minute, Juan Correa delivered a cross from the left side of the 18-yard box, finding Zoncher Dennis, who tucked home the shot from six yards out, beating Bohemian netminder Andrew Harris.
Correa also set up the next marker for the Nor’easters just four minutes later. His free kick from 45 yards out was placed perfectly for the head of Ken Tribbett, who flicked the ball home into the top right corner, giving Ocean City a quick 2-0 lead.
The Nor’easters nearly had a third goal in the 18th minute, but Anthony Asante’s wicked curling shot from 20 yards out smashed off the left post.
Baltimore managed to break through with their first attempt on net midway through the first half, and then as the game neared the half-hour mark, the hosts were finally rewarded with a goal of their own. Geaton Caltabiano picked up a loose ball inside the box, shooting from near the penalty spot. His drive deflected off of a Nor’easter defender, and slowly crept into the far corner of the net, past a stranded Brian Billings, cutting the Ocean City advantage in half.
The Bohemians looked to tie the match up right after the second half kickoff. Within 45 seconds of the restart, Michael Gamble left the ball off for Julio Arjona, but his attempt sailed high over the crossbar. Gamble tried his own luck in the 54th, but his tight-angle drive from the right went to the wrong side of the far post.
Ocean City regained their two-goal cushion in the 68th minute. Ken Tribbett set up a well-timed cross for Anthony Asante, who glanced a close shot off the fingertips of Harris for the 3-1 lead.
Baltimore refused to give in to the Ocean City pressure, and almost got a goal back 15 minutes before the end of the match. A header from Marquez Fernandez off of a corner kick had to be tipped over by Billings, and moments later, a fierce free kick by Mamadou Kansaye rattled the crossbar. However, the Nor’easters defense stepped up in the closing stages, keeping their 100 percent record intact.
The Bohemians (2-1-2) will play the middle game of their three-game homestand on Monday night at 7:00 against the Jersey Express.
