Justin Bieber might not be giving love a bad name, but he certainly isn’t helping his own name out any, and Jon Bon Jovi is one quick to point out why, slamming the pop singer for his tardiness at his shows, the disrespect he’s showing his fans, and warning him that “a**hole” would be an appropriate label if he continues with that kind of behavior. According to an ANI report (via Yahoo News) on May 22, the frontman for one of the most successful rock bands of the last quarter-century says that each generation has its Biebers, and he didn’t mince words voicing what he thought of such behavior.
Jon Bon Jovi, the 51-year-old singer for the New Jersey band that takes his last name, is credited with being one of the hardest working men in the music business. No doubt it is a reflection of his Jersey work ethic. In an interview with the London Evening Standard, he commented on the teen pop idol’s recent London show at the O2 Arena, where Bieber was nearly an hour and a half late for a show, then blamed it on technical difficulties.
Bon Jovi, for one, isn’t a belieber…
“Every generation has guys that do that, none of that is new,” he said.
He went on: “They run the risk of disrespecting their audience members who have worked hard to pay for their ticket, to give you the permission to take two or three hours of their lives — or in that kid’s case, 80 minutes of their lives.”
Bieber seems to have run into quite a bit of blowback on his overseas tours. While in London, he was center of several mini-scandals. Besides being late for one show, he collapsed during another and was in a highly publicized altercation with a paparazzi (he threatened to beat the man) that he bumped into outside his hotel. None of those incidents made him look good.
But being late for a show is something you don’t do, according to Bon Jovi. Still, the “Living On A Prayer” singer says that Bieber (and those like him) can redeem themselves.
“Do it once, you can be forgiven. Do it enough times and shame on you. They won’t have you back. Then it just becomes a cliché. It’s really not cool — you’re an a**hole. Go to f***in’ work!”
And work is what Bon Jovi is all about. Currently, he and the band are in the middle of their “Because We Can World Tour.” The band has sold more than 100 million albums worldwide, 34 million in the US alone. And having the band back is what it is all about. The band has been rocking since 1983 and they sell out wherever they go.
As for Bieber, his troubles continue to mount. After a run-in with an avid fan in Dubai, there was an apparent heist while a Bieber show was going on. To top it off, he was booed while giving an acceptance speech at the Billboard Music Awards, where he took home three awards. He told the audience he wanted to be treated seriously as an artist.
Taking some advice from a respected personage in the industry might be a good first step in gaining that treatment he desires.
Until then, he’s got some work to do…
