Forecast discussion: A swath of moisture is moving into New England this evening, and will be with us until Monday afternoon. We will see drier weather and lower dewpoints by the middle of the week, before the end of the week ends cloudy and wet.
Right now, two different systems are beginning to bring precipitation into Southern New England. The first feature is a low pressure system moving just east of Cape Cod, MA. This low will help bring showers and periods of rain into parts of Boston this evening. After midnight, a cold front passing into the Mid-Atlantic States will help trigger more showers and possible thunderstorms into Monday afternoon. We should see a little sunshine, as the cold front moves offshore, and high pressure over Ohio helps bring drier air over the region.
This high will be slowly moving to the east, so we will see mostly sunny skies for all of Tuesday and Wednesday. Also, dewpoint temperatures will drop off slightly, making the air feel more comfortable. Also, temperatures on Tuesday night will be low enough to shut off air conditioners and keep windows open.
As we go into Thursday, a frontal boundary over the Rockies will move towards the east coast. It will help trigger some showers and heavier precipitation in isolated areas before midnight. The front will meet with a developing area of low pressure in the Virginias, which will slowly move northward. The two systems will combine their energies on Friday, when we might see some heavy rainfall.
As we go into the weekend, the front and low pressure center will move offshore by early Saturday morning, but another weak disturbance behind the front may help trigger more showers Saturday afternoon. The showers will move offshore by early Sunday morning, allowing for some filtered sunshine by the afternoon.
