Forecast discussion: Although it was the last day of May, it felt more like the middle of summer throughout eastern Massachusetts. The official temperature at Logan Airport in Boston was 93 degrees. We will have a chance for Boston to have an official heat wave if the next two days have a high temperature of at least 90 degrees. As of publishing this article, the National Weather Service has not yet issued an Air Quality Alert for the state for Saturday.
At this time, the computer models are predicting temperatures in the capital city to go above 90 degrees. One of the reasons is we will see stronger winds in the afternoon from the southwest, which is a land breeze. For the coastline, fog will burn off by noontime, and temperatures will reach the upper 70’s. So, heading to the beach may be a good idea to stay cool.
As we approach Sunday, we will begin to see increasing clouds in the afternoon. This is due to a slow moving cold front, which continues to spawn tornadoes and severe weather in the Central Plains. This front will bring more moisture over us Sunday afternoon, with the threat of some showers late in the afternoon. I’m expecting heavy rain at times during the overnight and into Monday. The front will slowly move offshore by early Tuesday morning, with a high pressure system coming down from central Canada helping to clear our skies.
This high will bring much cooler air, as temperatures will only be in the lower to middle 70’s, starting on Monday. The high will influence our weather for most of the week, until a series of low pressure systems meet up along the east coast. They will combine their moisture to bring some evening showers on Friday.
