Forecast discussion: Although the calendar says it is almost the end of May, it felt more like the end of March on Saturday in Boston. It was raw and cloudy, with drizzle, fog, and mist in the capital city. Showers are encompassing the eastern half of the state as of writing this forecast.
All this wet, raw weather is due to a center of low pressure now moving into the Gulf of Maine.
This low will continue to rotate passing showers this evening, and will even bring some snow showers to Vermont this evening. Temperatures will still be about ten to fifteen degrees cooler on Sunday, as we will remain under cloudy skies and strong northwest winds. However, the end of this dreary weather is coming to an end. The precipitation slowly lifts to the north during the afternoon, and we may see some limited sunshine before sunset. Temperatures will still remain quite cold tomorrow night, as lows fall into the lower 40’s.
Memorial Day will be the best day of the extended weekend, as we will see bright sunshine and lighter winds. It will also be warmer, as highs will increase to near 70 degrees. This will all be due to a high pressure center in the Mid-Atlantic, which will give us some dry weather into early Wednesday morning. However, we will see increasing clouds on Tuesday evening, as a warm front pushes into the Northeast U.S.
This front will help bring our temperatures back to seasonable conditions, but it will also bring another round of showers and light rain by Wednesday morning. The showers will continue into Thursday morning, before the front lifts north. A new high pressure system will return us back to sunny skies to start the following weekend. Temperatures will be quite warm, with highs in the lower to middle 80’s and lows in the upper 50’s to lower 60’s.
