The final weekend of July is here and there is every indication that we are in for a spectacular day of weather today. The clouds and showers have lifted out of the area, any leftover patchy fog will burn off early and with high pressure in place the day is looking great for any type of outdoor activity. Today is definitely the pick of the weekend as conditions will go downhill Sunday.
For the beaches expect sunshine and highs in the low 80s today. Southwest winds 8 to 15 mph. Rip currents of 2 to 4 feet, so be aware of that, ocean temperatures in the mid to upper 60s and a high UV Index, so don’t forget the sunscreen.
A cold front approaches from our west during Sunday and low pressure south of New England will both provide increasing moisture and eventually showers and thunderstorms into the area. Humidity will also be on the increase as the dew points creep back into the 60s. There may be some areas of spotty sunshine, but overall the day is looking mostly cloudy. Daytime temperatures may be a few degrees cooler from those of today, although a milder and muggy night follows as the threat of showers and storms remains.
The cold front makes its push through our area around midday Monday, although some models suggest it could be later in the day. Early showers will give way to improving skies in the afternoon but there will still be a chance of an afternoon shower or thunderstorm, especially if the front moves through here later rather than sooner. Skies will begin to clear out overnight as the front moves offshore.
A drier and pleasant air mass follows in the wake of the cold front and looks to deliver a beautiful day on Tuesday. Highs will probably run slightly under seasonal averages, coolest along the coastline.
