A group of Mansfield boys helped save the lives of a litter of kittens, after they witnessed a neighbor kill the mother cat.
On Tuesday, a Mansfield man asked the four boys if they wanted a kitten. When they said no, the man reportedly snapped the neck of the mother cat in front of the boys. He then threw her into the weeds. The man put her five kittens into a bag and tossed the bag near the mother.
One of the boys used his iPhone to videotape the man as he twisted the mother cat’s neck. The boys, ages 10 to 16 years old, then called police.
The videotape was turned over to the police. The 53-year-old man will be charged, however police have not yet been able to locate him. Neighbors reported that after the incident, he walked down the street, apparently intoxicated.
The mother cat was still young, less than three months old. Her kittens are four weeks old. The kittens are currently at the Richland County Humane Society. They will be looked over by a veterinarian and treated for fleas. The Humane Society reports on their Facebook page that the kittens are doing well:
they are eating, drinking and much better off than they were a few hours ago.
If interested in helping the little orphaned kitten family, please contact the Richland County Humane Society by calling (419) 774-4795 or email the shelter at email@example.com. The Humane Society is looking for foster homes for the kittens.
Please note: Regarding the comments made on the age of the mama cat being too young to have kittens, this writer agrees she must have been older. Her exact age is not known.
