Norwegian Cruise Line’s new Norwegian Breakaway is off and running, sailing from New York City for ever and ever, until the end of time. Now, Norwegian turns its attention to Norwegian Getaway, next year’s hit in the making that will be joined at the hip to sunny South Florida. Up first: Entertainment options.
Norwegian will continue shaking things up in the arena of cruise ship entertainment, adding Broadway‘s Legally Blonde, exclusively on Norwegian Getaway. Legally Blonde opened on Broadway at the Palace Theater on April 29, 2007 and closed in 2008 after playing 595 performances and was also one of London’s most popular West End shows, where it played at the Savoy Theatre and won three Laurence Olivier Awards, including one for “Best New Musical.”
Burn The Floor
The seven-time Tony Award nominated musical will be featured along with Broadway dance sensation Burn The Floor, which premiered in London in 1999 and toured the US for the first time in 2000, including performances at Radio City Music Hall. After touring around the world, Burn The Floor premiered on Broadway in 2009, extending its original run into January 2010, performing 193 shows. Burn The Floor is currently in the midst of its World Tour of the Broadway Production with dates in Holland, Australia, South Africa, Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea and Japan, and will return to the US later this year before joining Norwegian Getaway in 2014.
Illusionarium magic show
In addition, other entertainment acts and venues will debut on the ship, including Howl at the Moon at Headliners Comedy Club, Norwegian Getaway’s Illusionarium magic show will envelop guests in the world of magic, inviting them to experience the astonishing illusions of world-class magicians and supernatural special effects. As guests wait to enter the portal of The Illusionarium, they will be surrounded by antique spell books, magical interactive artifacts and relics in a steampunk-inspired environment. The centerpiece of the Illusionarium is a 30′ diameter video dome that will transport audiences to mystical places. The Illusionarium will offer 12 performances per cruise, two shows per night.
Fireworks Light Up the Night
Adding to the ship’s excitement, Norwegian Getaway will also feature a dazzling display of fireworks on every cruise. As guests dance the night away under the stars in the open-air Spice H20 venue at the aft of the ship, a mesmerizing color-filled fireworks show will light up the night sky, right above the ship. The fully-produced show is a visual masterpiece that is set to music, creating an incredible finale to the cruise.
More details of entertainment offerings, other venues and features will be revealed in the coming months.
