When Prince Harry touched down in Washington DC for the first day of his seven-day tour of the US on Thursday, NBC News reported hundreds of adoring young women were seen giving the handsome prince and Britain’s most eligible bachelor a rock star welcome.
Trying to capture a photo of the handsome 28-year-old royal, hundreds of cell phones were seen out in front and in the air as they also twittered some of their excitement.
One user posted: “Cries of “Harry, Harry”- it was like a One Direction concert #PrinceHarry #PrinceHarryUSA”
US Senator John McCain who was at the airport to greet Prince Harry accompanied Prince Harry as he toured an anti-landmine photography exhibition at the Russell Senate office building in Washington DC during the first leg of his US tour.
As Prince Harry made his way to the exhibition, Capitol Hill staffers were seen filling the corridors and upstairs balconies to catch a glimpse of Prince Harry.
McCain, 76, was surprised by the Prince’s female admirer’s saying, “never seen such a crowd of young ladies,” going on to say later, “I noticed a proportional amount of media coverage is of one gender.”
After the Prince left the building, one of the women tweeted, “And so, Prince Harry left. Hallways cleared. Female staffers returned to their lives, unfulfilled dreams of being a princess.”
