According to an article written this month by Digital Marketing Ramblings, there are now 1.11 billion users on Facebook. It’s no wonder that over 15 billion businesses advertise on Facebook where there is such a vast audience.
All companies know the importance of advertising, and it is no exception for independent business owners. Several Utah entrepreneurs that sell a product or service are able to work mainly from home because of the growth in social marketing. Others that work in a store or other place can use social marketing at their own convenience to help grow their business.
- Create a Facebook Page: Obviously the first step in advertising on Facebook is creating a business page. To get started log into your personal Facebook account. On the left-hand side find and click on “pages: more,” then on “create a page” at the top. Choose the option that best fits the type of business you own and fill out the basic information. Then Facebook will walk you through customizing your page, including adding to your business description and uploading any related pictures. If you have a website, be sure to share a link in the description section.
- Build a Fan Base: Now that your business Facebook page is ready to go it’s time to start attracting fans. Let your friends know about your page by sharing it on your wall (click on the tools icon and “share” or copy and paste the URL in your “update status” post). Then invite them individually (in the admin panel where it says friends that like your page, click on “invite” for each friend). Let them know you’re starting a business page and would appreciate if they would “like” and “share” your page on their wall for friends to see.
You can also look for related Facebook pages to share your business on, for example, if you sell baby products “like” and post on parenting pages (be sure to get permission from the page owner first). Also ask to advertise in local groups (Salt Lake City, Utah County, etc.) and on Utah business pages and/or home business pages, such as, Utah Business Magazine and Work at Home Mom’s Connection.
- Market your Business: Posting on your business Facebook page regularly is one of the biggest keys to keeping your fans interested. The new “Offer, Event +” post option allows you to easily upload information about events, business milestones, or put a question to a poll.
Effective ways to draw attention to your business include: post information about new products, current promotions and special events. You might also try doing give-a-ways for a specific product or discounts on products/services as rewards for things, such as, when you reach a certain number of fans or trivia questions about your business products. Require that participants “like” and “share” your post and announce the winner once the goal has been met.
Now that you’re a Facebook marketing pro, go for it! Join the over 15 billion businesses and see what Facebook can do for your fan base! Be sure to share any questions or insight you have in the comment section below.
