Last night’s first episode of “Cake Boss” was titled “Cake Smash” giving the crew bigger jobs that test their talents.
The first one is a life-size wedding dress cake for a bridal salon promotion. Buddy’s team has to hide a coin in the cake and the bride-to-be that gets the coin, will receive the dress of her dreams. Remy, the bridal shop owner is a stickler for details and expects perfection. Buddy would not have it any other way.
Next, a photographer comes in to order three cakes for a photo shoot. It will be for her baby’s and two friends who are all turning one. The theme will be a triple cake smash, one for each child. As Buddy goes over the details with her, she gives him the colors for the theme. So Buddy had Lisa bring their youngest boy, Carlo to the bakery to test the cake smashing. Carlo wants to make cakes and not smash them. He is adorable, and his aunts and parents loved watching his antics.
Ashley, the winner of last season’s “Next Great Baker,” is there for a year and is making considerable progress as they give her more challenges. The shop left three dresses for them to use as patterns, but they needed models to try them on because just hanging on hangars, did not give the right effect. Lisa tried one, Ashley another and because the girls in the shop would not do it, Anthony modeled the last one; he is a riot and has an adorable personality and does not mind being the butt of his coworker’s jokes.
The smash cakes are awesome, and Buddy admits he has not been doing whipped cream cakes in a long time. When Buddy delivered the cakes, he got to watch the three kids smash the cakes. Well, only two wanted to smash the cakes; the photographer’s daughter was crying through the entire shoot.
As the dress cake is becoming a reality, the event happens. The brides are circled around it, and instead of eating the cake, they will tear it apart searching for the coin. Finally, a lucky bride-to-be found the coin and won her dream dress. Buddy reminded them all that if they needed a cake, to come and see him.
Buddy got a call from Paul, one of the contestants with Ashley on “Next Great Baker.” Paul has been experiencing nothing but bad luck since he appeared on the show, and is beseeching Buddy to help him out. After the show, he lost his job, and then he lost his house when Hurricane Sandy came. Now Buddy is in a perplexing situation; Ashley was the winner, she and Paul did not get along, and Buddy is obligated only to hire the winner. Now the “Cake Boss” is in a precarious situation.
