Cedar Fair Entertainment Company is hosting the fifth annual Coasting for Kids event to benefit Give Kids the World. The event that roller coaster enthusiasts look forward to all year takes place on Sunday, June 9 at Cedar Fair theme parks across the United States and Canada.
Coasting for Kids participants spend the day riding signature theme park roller coasters in an effort to raise funds for Give Kids the World Village (GKTW). GKTW Village is a “storybook” resort in central Florida where kids with life-threatening illnesses and their families stay for a week-long, fun-filled vacation. Families stay at the village resort while enjoying all of the attractions that central Florida has to offer, whether it’s SeaWorld, Disney, Universal or any number of other sites and venues.
Annie Zelm, spokeswoman for Cedar Point, Cedar Fair’s flagship park …
“Families, particularly children, are the driving force behind all of Cedar Fair’s parks. Our rides and attractions give them a rare opportunity to escape the stresses of everyday life, and our partnership with Give Kids the World helps make that possible for families who need a day of fun more than ever. We are proud of our parks’ combined efforts to raise funds so these deserving families can look forward to a vacation they’ll treasure for years.”
Participants pay a $25 registration fee, and a minimum fundraising donation of $75, in exchange for complimentary admission whichever Cedar Fair theme park they choose. Both the fee and donation are donated directly to GKTW.
Coasting for Kids registrants will also receive a 2013 Coasting for Kids t-shirt, a certificate, a complimentary meal and exclusive ride privileges on the park’s signature thrill rides. Returning participants will receive a keepsake sticker.
Cedar Fair park signature coasters include:
- Magnum and Gemini at Cedar Point (Sandusky, Ohio)
- Diamondback and Racer at Kings Island (Cincinnati, Ohio)
- Intimidator 305, Dominator and Rebel Yell at Kings Dominion (Doswell, Virginia)
- Flight Deck and Vortex at California’s Great America (Santa Clara, California)
- Vortex and Behemoth at Canada’s Wonderland (Vaughan, Canada)
Riders are encouraged to reach out to their family, friends and communities in their fundraising efforts, and many hold informal contests to see who can generate the most contributions. Those who raise at least $1,000 will receive a unique top fundraiser shirt and a Fast Lane pass to be used at the park. Participants that meet the $800 level will receive a Coasting for Kids carabiner clip keychain and tally counter (all the better for keeping track of those laps around the park). Riders at the $500 level will receive Coasting for Kids awareness band bracelets.
