Happy IPA Day everybody! Or should I say “Hoppy” IPA Day.
August 1st is National IPA Day. And why not? America has embraced this wonderful style that originated in England and pretty much made it their own. In fact, the American IPA style had the most entries at The Great American Beer Festival this past year. And with over 80 different hop varieties and more experimental hops in the works, this beautiful bud will be bittering your brew in ways and flavors you haven’t even dreamed of yet.
Take Dogfish Head for example. You may not be able to put ten pounds of sugar into a five pound bag, but they figured out how to put hops into their beer for 60 minute, then for 90 minute and then for 120 minute. What’s next? For how many minutes can Dogfish push the hop envelope?
It just goes to show you that the American IPA will be around for a long time. But don’t let that stop you from enjoying a cold IPA for National IPA Day.
